I hate all these "holier then thou" people.
Wow, fish, Hate is a pretty strong word.
Thanks, though. I was expecting some serious pushback/flames for going against the tide that often is the norm in forums like this, us against the Authority. Which has been prevalent over the last 9 months.
Back when I was employed to enforce these rules, we did it for many different reasons. Each area has itโs distinct nuances. The biggest reasons were to combat โSquattersโ and those with Illegal Intent.
A famous Boulder Colorado case was where a person owned land that bordered open space of a well-known community. They improved their own property so much they couldnโt easily access their property without crossing their neighbors unimproved property. So the landowners began using this other personโs property to their benefit. They built a trail across it and kept doing so, for more than a decade. The neighbor thought he was being a good neighbor to allow it to continue. They then started a process to gain ownership of this area. The result was awarding with this partial, they rendered their neighborโs property an unbuildable property. It no longer was large enough to build a home or any other improvement on it. What was not disclosed earlier was the party crossing this property was a retired judge and his wife an attorney. They never took the request to open court, but had the work done behind the scenes with another judge, that knew them, one that was not aware of what their agenda was. Some feel there might have been an agenda, always, to keep the absentee neighbor from building on his property, assuring the trespassers an unobstructed view.
The other big issue is Squatters. These individuals often abuse their opportunity by fouling the area with trash and debris. Then you have those that go in and reshape the land to their dream. Sometimes building structures, installing ponds and other improvements. Then you have those that plant illegal plants, for financial gain, and protect these zones from trespass of the public that owns this lands.
The issue that often is the problem in the form of the OP is when people stay longer than permitted, they are removing a resource from someone else from enjoying this wonderful opportunity, as well.
When I am in an area, I have a record of when I arrive and know when the limits for stay are. A true boondocker should follow the great opportunity afforded them and not become a โSquatter.โ If not, they are no longer a Boondocker, but a trespasser or squatter. An entirely different type of Land User.
Also, many misunderstand that when people are shown the road out, that they are not fined. But often the word gets around that enforcement is happening. Just like when one see a policeman pulled over, with a violator. They think this person is getting a โticket,โ where in reality they are just being counseled. But the message becomes clear to those passing the traffic stop, intentionally or unintentionally. Thus, the OPโs post is providing a benefit, a chance for discussion.
Donโt overstay your Welcome.
