Bouse 14 day camping enforcement

Heads up for anyone boondocking near Bouse.

The lady working at the county RV park in Bouse today says a lot of people were cited yesterday ($75.00) for exceeding the 14 day limit. The BLM usually doesn't check over there but she thinks someone complained. I did see a sheriff's pickup driving around to various rigs yesterday but don't know if they're doing the citations for the BLM or if it was just a coincidence.

Wow, fish, Hate is a pretty strong word.

Thanks, though. I was expecting some serious pushback/flames for going against the tide that often is the norm in forums like this, us against the Authority. Which has been prevalent over the last 9 months.

Back when I was employed to enforce these rules, we did it for many different reasons. Each area has itโ€™s distinct nuances. The biggest reasons were to combat โ€œSquattersโ€ and those with Illegal Intent.

A famous Boulder Colorado case was where a person owned land that bordered open space of a well-known community. They improved their own property so much they couldnโ€™t easily access their property without crossing their neighbors unimproved property. So the landowners began using this other personโ€™s property to their benefit. They built a trail across it and kept doing so, for more than a decade. The neighbor thought he was being a good neighbor to allow it to continue. They then started a process to gain ownership of this area. The result was awarding with this partial, they rendered their neighborโ€™s property an unbuildable property. It no longer was large enough to build a home or any other improvement on it. What was not disclosed earlier was the party crossing this property was a retired judge and his wife an attorney. They never took the request to open court, but had the work done behind the scenes with another judge, that knew them, one that was not aware of what their agenda was. Some feel there might have been an agenda, always, to keep the absentee neighbor from building on his property, assuring the trespassers an unobstructed view.

The other big issue is Squatters. These individuals often abuse their opportunity by fouling the area with trash and debris. Then you have those that go in and reshape the land to their dream. Sometimes building structures, installing ponds and other improvements. Then you have those that plant illegal plants, for financial gain, and protect these zones from trespass of the public that owns this lands.

The issue that often is the problem in the form of the OP is when people stay longer than permitted, they are removing a resource from someone else from enjoying this wonderful opportunity, as well.

When I am in an area, I have a record of when I arrive and know when the limits for stay are. A true boondocker should follow the great opportunity afforded them and not become a โ€œSquatter.โ€ If not, they are no longer a Boondocker, but a trespasser or squatter. An entirely different type of Land User.

Also, many misunderstand that when people are shown the road out, that they are not fined. But often the word gets around that enforcement is happening. Just like when one see a policeman pulled over, with a violator. They think this person is getting a โ€œticket,โ€ where in reality they are just being counseled. But the message becomes clear to those passing the traffic stop, intentionally or unintentionally. Thus, the OPโ€™s post is providing a benefit, a chance for discussion.

Donโ€™t overstay your Welcome.

What holier than thou? That rule is in place to stop people from landing on a spot and then camping there for long periods. That keeps others from using that place.

What part of 14 day limits on BLM short term area camping were they not aware of?
Cudos to the whistle blower and the enforcement officers who had authority, , to enforce the law.
Federal land camping outside of LTVAs is a measure to preserve those areas, give opportunity to all access to prime locations Also, it is meant to encourage accumulated wastewater disposal into treatment systems.

Sounds like they violated a well known policy. Those boondocking for a length of time know how long they are in a location, if not, they should. I don't see an issue of who complained, it is a violation.
