Camp Sherman in Oregon

Does anybody have an opinion of Camp Sherman in Oregon near the head of the Metolius River? We are familiar with the Bend/Sisters area, but we've never journeyed up there. It looks gorgeous on the website, but we've been burned by that before.
I'm done. This isn't a place to be helpful. It's a place where curmudgeons with a superiority complex will nit pick everything. If you want help, go elsewhere. Admin, delete my account please.

Thanks guys. I'll definitely put it on our list.

Great scenery, idyllic setting. World class flyfishing. Great opportunities for hiking and mountain biking nearby. Sisters is a cute little town with shopping and tourist opportunities just down the road. Dee Wright Observatory is a possible day trip in the truck (no trailers) as are many other destinations.

If you need any info on trails to mountain bike on, let me know.

It is a gorgeous area. The "campgrounds" are as stated above; however, the private rv park there is a joke. While they do have hookups, the sites are tight and pretty much unorganized....getting a large rv in there can be difficult. Unless you really need FHUs, i would shy away from the rv park.

We camp up there 3-4 times a year. It's our favorite place to go. There's 8 CGs along the river. 1 (Pine Rest) is tent only. 1 (Gorge) has no water, the rest have water spigots scattered around. All the CGs are loops and each CG has sites that are next to the river. Only 2 take reservations, Smiling River CG and Camp Sherman. On weekends all CGs will be almost full. During the week its about 1/3 full. We've gone up on a thurs before a big 3 day weekend and have been able to get a spot in a non res CG. Coming up Friday night before a normal weekend is a gamble.

We are avid bike riders and love riding up there. There's forest service roads and bike trails all over. Our favorite ride is to ride from our CG up to hwy 20, cross the hwy and take the Suttle Tie trail to Suttle lake, then take Lake Creek trail back to our CG. About 20 miles RT.

There's a nice little store at the resort that has just about everything that you might need.

We have a 28' 5th wheel and can stay in most CGs up there. We see some larger (35') 5th wheels at Smilling River and Camp Sherman a lot.

We usually stay in Camp Sherman when we go to Sisters. The private RV park is pretty much packed in sites. We like the Camp Sherman Campground. No hookups, no other amenities, either, but it is close enough to walk to the Camp Sherman store if you need something. It's right on the river. Lots of good things to see in that area, including the fish hatchery and the Headwaters of the Metolius.

Suttle Lake, just up the highway, is also a nice place to stay. There are three campgrounds right on the lake. No hookups or other amenities there, either, and not as quiet as Camp Sherman.

My favorite place to camp. Sadly I am too big for most of the area. There are about 6 NF camp grounds with water scattered around, and one private park. Allen Springs is IMHO the best.

Camp Shetman area...the whole Metolius area is gorgeous. I don't know about camping there because we lived in the Bend area and it was a day trip. But DO check it out. Take your camera!!! You can also go further up the highway and check out Suttle Lake. A great hiking path around the lake. There is a resort there, but last spring the restaurant was closed.
