Campgrounds near Salida Colorado

I am looking for advice on good campgrounds near Salida Co. I will be staying there the first couple weeks of June. I have a 25' travel trailer. I would like full hook up and as much privacy as possible. Oh I am also traveling with a dog
Any suggestion??

We make a few trips each year to Gunnison. The Heart of the Rockies look to be the best choice as we pass by on the road each year. To close to where we are going to stop. lol

If you're looking for the Salida area, in addition to Salida and Buena Vista, check out Nathrop, Howard, and Poncha Springs as potential locations. Poncha Springs is to the west of Salida and includes some locations over Poncha Pass in the San Luis Valley, as well as up toward Monarch Pass. Howard is SE of Salida along the Arkansas River, and Nathrop is north between Poncha Springs and Buena Vista.

As others have said, there are more campgrounds in Buena Vista including a KOA if that interests you. We have stayed at Arrowhead Point Campground, which is north of town, a number of times and enjoyed it, especially the quiet as it is back from the highway.

These would be my top recommendations in the Buena Vista area. We stayed at the KOA for many years because I could hike out right from the campground up Midland Hill and right on over to town.

In later years I'm not hiking as much and we have enjoyed staying at the Arrowhead Point north of the city.

However, the OP specifically asked about Salida and I don't have any recommendation to make. In all these years we've never stayed there. Buena Vista, Gunnison, Crested Butte, OUray Creede, Durango, but never Salida.

We stayed at Heart of the Rockies last Sept., we were not impressed with the CG but it was okay for the night.

In Salida there is only 1 campground that I know about, Four Seasons RV Park. We have stayed there a couple of times but not recently. It is okay and has some nice sites on the river that have a bit more room.
There is a campground west of Salida about 10 miles, Heart of the Rockies Campground. It also is okay, nothing fancy and though it does have trees there isn't a lot of shade. We stayed there last fall on our way home from western Colorado and the manager was very nice and helpful as I was pulling doubles and needed a long space. Have also stayed there in the past with good experiences. The place was for sale last fall so I don't know where that is at now.
There is another campground west of there, Monarch Spur RV Park but I don't know anything about it.

I agree. I think this is the best we have found in the area.

We stayed at the Snowy Peaks RV park in Buena Vista. We paid extra to get one of the premium spots with more room. We enjoyed our stay there as it was very nice. Some spots in the back were very close together. We checked out some of the other parks in the area while we were there and decided Snowy Peaks was the best.I have different names than most people. A campground is usually in the woods with no hookups or maybe electric only. An RV park is usually where you find full hookups (there are exceptions, the state parks here in Arkansas now have several full hookups sites in their campgrounds).

Not much to choose from in Salida.Bueana Vista is not far from Salida and more parks to choose from.Do a Google search Bueana Vista RV Park Reviews sure you will find one good luck.

Full hookups and privacy don't go together. Pick one or the other.
