We live about 40km north of Toronto. Made the trip to Fort Wilderness many times over the years, only twice in the last 12 months.
We take 401 to I75 and then south to FL. Easy crossing a Windsor (Ambassador Bridge), even with the construction in Windsor. As said before, just avoid rush hours in Cincy and Atlanta. (Many posts on Atlanta traffic). Basically flat drive, with the exception of northern TN, but only a couple of big hills there.
The route through Buffalo, (I-77,79,26,95) is more scenic, but the hills (mountains) are more plentiful, at some points it seems almost constant up and down. We take that route once every 5-10yrs and then realize why 75 is our preferred route.
Fort Wilderness, as said it is the Gold Standard of campgrounds. We request the preferred loops 100 or 200 as they are the closest to the boats to Magic Kingdom, shortest push with the wheelchair, BUT all sites are excellent.
When you are making your reservations, do it by phone, its the best way. Depending on time of year, holidays, American Spring breaks etc, you may need to book almost a year ahead. Last summer we called near the end of July and got three weeks at the end of Aug.
Don't hesitate to ask questions as you get closer to your vacation.
