Closest campground to mammoth caves KY

Going to mammoth caves KY in sept and need to find the closest campground for convenience. Thx!

Stayed at CaveCountry RV park, it was our home base for the week. Near the Interstate and Cracker Barrel. Pull thru sites and full hook-ups and cable...

I would highly recommend cave country at cave city.

I think you are right. CaveCountry RV park is about a mile or so back on the other side of 65. The little diner at the top of the hill from Jellystone is pretty good!

I knew you had to cross a highway, just wasn't sure how far.
X2 on the little diner. It's a bit nasty inside but the food is good!

I think you are right. CaveCountry RV park is about a mile or so back on the other side of 65. The little diner at the top of the hill from Jellystone is pretty good!

We just stayed there this last April, very convenient to the cave. The people that run it are very nice. We would stay there again if we're in the area again.

One of my first great RV experiences was staying at Singing Hills in 2005. The owner was "Oscar" Sullivan who had been a Grand Old Opry regular in the 1940's. Oscar passed in 2012, and I don't know if the campground stayed in the family. A prior post said that the current owners were nice people, too. I would stay there again.

Both this area and the Land Between the lakes have been on my bucket list for awhile now... I have TENT camped at Land Between The Lakes before but not in my OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer...

Being Native Southern Illinois with family ties to the infamous HORSECREEKERs of that area I should have camped more in these areas... I grew up on land in Jefferson County Ill that the Illinois Rend Lake gobbled up when it was built - have only driven through that area around all of the great camping spots that was created.

What happens when you leave your home towns following the working years I guess... Can't complain too much as this area has many great camping spots for my style of camping up and down the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge parkway. It really gets pretty camping behind Harrisonburg VA up along the wooded and unmarked VA/WVA state line border...

Love those dry camping spots...

We love to back our trailer into a small opening in the woods somewhere along the Natl Forest Service Roads and blend in with the Birds and the Squirrles haha...

We stayed at Cave Country RV park in Cave City. As far as convenience goes the further you get from 65 the less convenient it is to anything. If I remember correctly it was a 15min drive to Mammoth Cave Park from the campground.

Be careful if you select one inside the park. Don't rely on a GPS to get you to one of the inside CGs - I did several years ago and found myself trying to cross a small river on a ferry (that couldn't take the fifth wheel)! To make matters worse, the ferry was at the end of a road with no turn around! Scope out your route ahead of time. I wish I could tell you the road, but I've slept too many times since then. Just consult a map before following your GPS in this area. Seems like the GPS got me in the area, then I started following signs to the CG.

All of the NPS campgrounds in Mammoth Cave NP are dry camping.

Diamond Caverns will probably be the physically closest. But only a couple miles or so are three more RV parks - Singing Hills, Mammoth Cave Jellystone and Cave City RV.

If you are referring to the Mammoth Caves National Park NW of Bowling Green KY they have several camp grounds inside the park. Use GOOGLE MAP SEARCH for CAMPGROUNDS to get the names and locations of the various camp grounds...
