Hard to move from low power rates

I've been commuting between central WA and southern CA for 10 years, and it's getting old, so I'm looking at homes that aren't such a grueling drive. Found things I like in southern ID and NW NM.

This mild summer has been a real boon to my electric usage. I just got last month's bill, for a whopping $27. Thank you Grand Coulee Dam. I'm not going to find cheap electric like that anywhere.

Hehe.. well, yeah.

So are you saying it's true then, "nothing as cheap as rich people."

Florida has no state income tax. Plus numerous other tax reduction programs.

If you go down South in Florida you ARE going to be in bugland. Remember ALL of that was nothing more than a huge swamp not to long ago before the ole TV ads come out to buy land in Florida in the 60's. :W And you have the everglades just pumping out mosquitoes 365 days a year.

Not all of Florida has bugs, You need to stay in the 'North Central' area. What I call the hidden gem of Florida. THAT area has never been a swamp. I do NOT have mosquitoes where I bought my winter home here.

The key is Midwest to south. Nothing nicer IMHO than Wisconsin the grass is so green in spring it hurts your eyes. And the lakes? Well we don't have gators here so you can swim and fish in ALL of them!

Florida to Wisconsin in the summer and Wisconsin to Florida in the winter. Ahhhhh the perfect way to live.

Now if only I can finish remodeling this darn Florida house to get out of here in summer to do just that! :C

I went from mich to Annapolis for a graduation party and iirc spent over $60.00 in tolls which was about half or so of what I paid for diesel in a 3500 truck! If it's free it's for me, see you out west.

Our electric at the S&B in western Idaho runs between $20 and $75 month, year round and that is using an AC in the summer and a hybrid gas/heatpump in the winter. We moved from a state with no income tax to one with and have NEVER regretted it one bit.

Then don't move. You can't have everything the way you want it. :R

I live in southwest Idaho. On level pay, our gas is $39/month and electric is $75. Hard to beat those prices.

And what are your heating bills in winter? Winters there are long and cold.

Bugs and crass Easterners and traffic and bugs and high humidity and bugs and hurricans and bugs - - did I mention bugs?

We spent one winter/spring in Florida and up the East Coast. Never, ever again. We may come for the fall, but will visit and then head back west. :B

Solar works for me. I generate about 1/3rd of my power and pay less than $100 per year in SoCal.

TOU rates are key. Sell high price during the day, buy at low price at night. :B
