Covid 19 warning

For what it's worth, I just received news a good friend of mine passed away this morning from Covid 19. He got while RVing and they were being careful. His wife also go it, probably from him, but just got very ill. He was on a ventilator in hospital for 2 weeks. He was healthy and active. This is a wake up call for me. A winter at home beats eternity 6 ft under. This disease is not one to be blase about, it is not a hoax, it is not less dangerous than flu. Think long and hard before you decide to play Russian Roulette by heading for the sun this winter before there is a vaccine.

A very well orchestrated plan, or an unimaginable set of events that just fell into place ... with the United States front and center ?

Scare people with a virus, force them to wear masks and place them in quarantine. Count the number of dead every second of every day, in every News Headline. By the way, ninety-nine and eight-tenths of the people who get the virus, recover.

About one to two tenths of one percent who get the virus, die.
Most all of them have other medical problems.
Did you catch that ? Less than 1/2 of a percent die.
Closed businesses = 35,000,000+ instantly unemployed.

To some degree it is a societal or cultural difference. Roughly a thousand people are dying per day in the US. Hospitals are jammed full, ICUโ€™s see a thousand people a day die without loved ones by their side, medical staff are completely exhausted and overworked. For you and society this is apparently ok and you are fine with it. There has been some discussion lately in professional circles as what would still be acceptable. 3000 a day, 5000??? Who knows. But I think itโ€™s clear that different cultures have different tipping points before itโ€™s not acceptable. More than any other event this pandemic has shown the differences between neighbouring cultures. In this case American and Canadian. Not knocking the American culture. Itโ€™s their country and their culture. Life is just a little more precious here. Glad we have borders.

Unfortunately Canada has signed up with Moderna and Phizer for vaccine production. Neither company is expected have a vaccine for 18 months. Both are USA based. I expect that means "USA first, and Canada tail of the dog".

Tequila, I've had a flu shot every year for a very long time; but as I have gotten older, my doctor has prescribed a stronger flu shot covering more than one strain of the flu virus. Just started asking him questions about what he was giving me last year. Ha!

Because flu can be so devastating for older people with other health problems, Medicare now covered the "extra strength" multi-strain vaccine. The better protected, the less Medicare will spend on hospitalizations. Preventative medicine is a great cost saver.

Philh, "...if one gets a flu shot, they are 35% more likely to catch a Coronavirus." Now, I've spoken with my family doctor and my pharmacist with that same question, and they said no. In fact, they said that by decreasing the odds of getting the flu by taking the shot (my shot is a multi-strain flu shot), it may also help in not contracting Covid. The reason: The multi-strain shot has a SARS-related component in it. Of course, you can't be allergic to eggs. My appointment for the shot is set up for September.

I have heard the same and may not just be this years shot, if you have been getting them annually you may have some resistance. I ave also heard the same thing about the BCG shot for TB. Who knows?

Tequila, I was asking for the source of this information as I don't believe in the "I HEARD IT THEORY". There is just too much miss information out there with people drinking the cool aid and trying to sell the snake oil. I like to stick with the information which comes from the scientific community, that has been researched and documented.

We are living in an age when fact checking and or resource information needs to be done for important things.

Lots of dubious info out there for sure. I did some research on the 1918 pandemic and apparently a lot the sort of thing you see now, happened then. Quinine, the precursor to hydroxychloroquine was also being pushed as a cure back then, along with eating lots of onions. I now know of 2 people who have died of it and I am getting pretty irritated at people who are minimizing it.

Bowti, Italians have a high incidence of G6PD deficiency, an X chromosome carried genetic deficiency also common in Africa and may be an evolutionary defect to stave off malaria, which it does. They believe this defect makes your survival chances worse. In some areas of Italy its over 10%. A new study in Britain is also showing that Jews have less chance of survival which cannot be explained by economic disadvantages. This deficiency is also high in Jewish populations. Since this is an X chromosome condition require both parents to have the defective X in order to affect women, it affects almost exclusively men and may help explain why the death toll is higher in men.

Attempt at SARS not only failed, it was dangerous and killed people. There's also an interesting tie it to flu vaccine. Apparently if one gets a flu shot, they are 35% more likely to catch a coronavirus. This get more interesting when you look at Italy and their high death rate. Their flu vaccine for 2019/2020 had segments of coronavirus.

Can you please post the source for this information, I can't find it.

vaccine will not be available anytime soon. Attempt at SARS not only failed, it was dangerous and killed people. There's also an interesting tie it to flu vaccine. Our oldest daughter very likely has CV19. She's off work awaiting test results. Her roommate, is ordered back to work under threat of being fired until she actually tests positive.

The vaccine will be of little help in a country where maybe 50% eill not get the shot. Add to that if masks are not mandated the virus will win. Keep in mind that even the flu vaccine is only 50% effective.

Flu vaccine is always a guess of what strain it will be. Supposedly the covid ones they are working on are more specific, bit as you say if 50% refuse it it wont do much good. They just releases a survey in Canada. 14% said they will not get vaccinated. I wonder if people who refuse to get vaccinated will be restricted like not being able to get on a plane.

Today is one of very few days I have gone out into our nearby city and been able to say to my husband "I'm so proud of everyone". Kudos to all the parents doning their over 2 year old children in masks, even in strollers. Of course theres' always that white elephant in the room = only one person in Canadian Superstore and one person in Home Depot not wearing a mask and they looked young and fit to me! Admittedly appearances can be deceptive.

What a shame though that it had to be mandated by the mayor pushing for everyone to start wearing in public places and on transportation. Yet the fine is a measly $50 if you don't and $200 if you as a business don't post the By Law. The postings were only about 8inch x 8inch and hard to spot amongst other signage!

Alas, there's a very broad loop hole for the non-wearers and the staff aren't allowed to question them for non-wearing or refuse to serve them.

Anyway's some positive today locally for us in what has been a ton of despair for too long. It was a pleasure to say to every child we encountered "THANK YOU for wearing your mask", and watch their little faces light up. Mom's and Dad's smiled and were proud as well.

Never hurts to praise good behaviour is my thought especially in all this misery right now.

PS: Tequilla, thanks for the info: I've been taking Vitamin D3 twice a day 2 x 2000 IU's = 4000 IU for over 15 years. Maybe that is what saved me twice in this COVID thing from being close to hospitalised?

I went to both Home Depot & Lowes today. In Home Depot, no staff wearing masks. In Lowes all staff were wearing masks and they dropped saniizer into your hand after you paid.

From now on, Lowes has my business.
