Three nights at fort wilderness....electrical hookup at the very back corner of the site. WiFi sucked, No communication from the staff for any events, shows etc.. Going on in the campground. The park itself was as to be ecpected, crowded, over priced, etc.. Nothing special... Bucket list thing to do.. We won't be back...Period... Just an FYI to those thinking of going. Let the flaming begin....

Just got back from Disney World a couple of hours ago. The first time my granddaughter has ever been. My DW, son and DIL and her parents. Just went for the weekend and stayed at the Polynesian Resort..$2200.00 bucks for 3 nights. Not including food and drinks. Never cost me that much at Ft Wilderness, good thing weโ€™re season pass holders or it would have been more. Compared to the resorts, Ft Wilderness is a bargain.

Yes it is expensive but we enjoyed taking 4 of or grands there 5 years ago and now with 7 we went back 2 more times. It is the whole atmosphere. Shop and have the packages delivered to the camp store. Cable modem meant I could check in at work every day too. The boat ride over was great. Easier to get in and out if the park. I think I want to try wilderness lodge next time though.

Spent a week there....loved every minute of it. Can't wait to go back. A very economical way to stay 'on property' when compared to hotel rates.

Nothing special... Bucket list thing to do.

Sounds like you weren't even really wanting to go but did only because it was on your bucket list. I think you really need to relook at your bucket list to make sure there aren't other things that should be removed.

I know it's expensive, over priced, crowded, etc. Was there years ago with my kids and didn't really enjoy it because it's not my cup of tee. But I've still offered to go a couple of nights for my wife but she never has taken me up on the offer. Think she is waiting to take our grand daughter in a few more years. I want to go not for the amusement park which I find is extremely over priced, but just for the transportation, fireworks, grand hotels etc. The campground has nothing to do with the stay, just a convenient way to get more time in the park and not have to fight traffic everyday.

I agree they are overpriced but they do have a heart.

While camping at a premium site my wife became ill and we ended up having to go to Arnold Palmer Hospital for three days. I called the CG office and told them my problem and that I didn't know how long we would have to stay. Asked if I could move to a cheaper site or may move to another campground. They told me not to worry about moving. They charged me the same nightly minimum rate for a campsite in the cheapest area for however long I needed to stay.

Another point: My motorhome gets 6.8 mpg, diesel. DW is 550 miles away. Once I have spent the money to maintain the MH and drive the trip, the cost of camping and buying tickets becomes a smaller issue, by comparison.

We've been to Disney World maybe 5-6 times, 3 times stayed in Fort Wilderness. Enjoyed our stay and campground, well-kept and lots of amenities if you choose to partake. Don't feel that it's too exorbitant, many other popular destination campgrounds are similar in price and don't offer as much to do and the convenience of on site transportation to the different parks within Disney World. If you wish to save $$ and don't want to pay to go into a park every day you always have the option of visiting Disney Springs to get your Disney fix - it's free admission.

The Best CG in that area is also the cheapest.

We booked online... Ones perception of disney is not the same for everyone.. We went the end of June. Took 3 days to get there from jersey..

As far as a deal? I think it was a great deal. was about $2500 with a 4 days park pass with hopper option. I spent about $1000 on fuel down and back.

we were about a week there. I gave one day to rest up for the ride home.. We were up 6am everyday, so its a move move move if you want to get to parks early.

We also took a break and came back for lunch to the campground. Then we would hit another park at night.

Animal kingdom is a must see at night. The tree of life is phenomenal..

As well as the fireworks at the main park...

Ft wilderness is great IMO that we parked the truck and took the bus/shuttle to all the stations to reach all the parks.. Take the boat to disney main park..

We had a great time and wouldn't stay anywhere else when going to disney..

We did take a week and 1/2 to get home and wandered up the east coast through alabama and the smokey mountains etc etc.

We stayed in the 1400 loop and were in walking distance of the pool, and bonfire area. Had music and marshmallow singalong at night... It was great.

And get a high speed modem when you enter for great wifi internet access. They give you cable modem and I hook it to a wifi router I keep in camper..

IMO wasn't too crowded and the fast pass is a great item to use with the disney app. We got on every major ride and my family had the best time/experience of their lives...

If I wanted to stay at a hotel in disney the price upped to 6-8K$... So camping is the way to go...

I would go again in a heartbeat..

We always call when booking at the Fort. We use the web site to see what is available and then call and book.

We are planning on going in the July as that is the only time we can visit. Looking at booking this online. It is not very user-friendly. It quotes me $116.57 per night ( 6 nights should be about $699.42 plus tax) but then shows up over $900.00 when I go to check out. No tickets, just the campsite.

Did you all book on line? Call and book? AAA book?

thanks for any help.

Agreed that it's "to each his own". Our retirement community is about 45 minutes away. A couple here LOVES, LOVES, LOVES everything Disney. They go all the time -
not to Ft. Wilderness, but to all of the parks. They've sold their house here and are building a house in another retirement community about 15 minutes or less away from Disney. Apparently, they can go out the back gate of their new community and be there in a flash. So, for some, the place is magical.

Speaking of gagging down prices, my wife fell out of our camper and broke her wrist. The ER visit bill arrived today... over $18,000 dollars. 4 days? Try 4 hours. And it doesn't stop there; visit to the doc's for setting and a cast (after her refusing the surgery for pins and plates that they couldn't say if it would help or not), physical therapy, meds, etc.
I'm sorry, I digress. But at least I'm still ranting, even if off topic! Ha!

I guess what I'm trying to say is that medical costs make a day at Disneyworld look like nothing when it comes to my wallet.

We have been there twice in about 25 years.Once to take our kids, once to take our grandkids. Was it expensive? Yes. Was it worth it? Yes. We can't afford to do it on a regular basis. But to see how much fun our grand kids had it was worth the money.

We took our kids in 1996, in 2 years we will be taking our grandkids, that is about the only time I can gag down spending 4k in 4 days.
