Electric only sites

We will be doing our first camping at electric only sites at Ludington SP and Indiana Dunes SP next month. Will there typically be a water fill station I can bring the trailer to for freshwater fill up after I check in?

We stayed at Ludington two years ago. You can fill at the dump station but you can't fill from the water spigot inside the campground itself. A hose just won't fit. Never used a water thief but after a quick glance, it doesn't appear that it will fit onto the spigots at Ludington. I think the spigot is too wide to accommodate that.
To refill our fresh water, we use a large soft tank that can go onto the top of your tow vehicle. We fill that with clean water, then let it gravity feed into the TT. Works great for the MI state parks, b/c very very few have water on site.

Most hydrants now have a threaded anti-siphon end on them to prevent back flow. I still carry a 'cheater' but have not had the need to use it inyears.

That station has been removed.

I usually fill my fresh water tank when pulling in, most public cg's have fresh potable water tap near the dump station. We seldom stay more than three nights at electric only campgrounds but again many but not all have showers, if they do I use those DW refuses to public facilities.
We were forced to stay a week last winter at an electric only site I purchases a 6 gal fresh water container to replenish our fresh water. No need to carry 100 ft of hose.

We were so surprised coming from Texas to find that so many midwest and northern state and corp parks did not have water at each site. We remember to look these days- not fun to set up completely and then have to haul water or unhook and go fill tanks.

How are they made that a water thief won't work? Not arguing with you, just curious.

The Michigan State parks I've been to have gone to a few different spigot types to thwart hosers.

First is the steeply tapered smooth spigot. This spigot is very wide at the top and tapers down quickly, so even a hose clamped water weasel will slide off with the slightest back pressure

Second I've seen is the trough style spigot. Kinda like a rectangular bath tub faucet upside down, water flows into this spigot from the bottom and flows down a trough. You'd need a water weasel 6 inches across to mount this faucet, and I don't know how you'd seal around the open trough part.

Ludington SP:
You can fill up your trailer at the contact station, about a mile south of the park. They have threaded hoses so you can attach a filter if desired. This is also where you dump after your park visit.

Inside the park, there are lots of handicap accessible water spigots. They have a large pressure plate you push and hold to dispense water out of the un-threaded nozzle, which was too big / smooth for a my water weasel to fit on - it would just blast off with the pressure. Best to bring a funnel if you're filling jugs.

In Michigan State Parks and most state parks and national parks you will find the tank water fill in a separate area at the dump station. Do not use the water hose at the dump itself. Be sure you use the potable water and it's marked as such.

If you ever encounter parks without a dump station then that's where you will need to use a water thief or fill containers from the scattered faucets in the park.
