We camp in that area at least once every year. Our personal favorite is Stuart Rec. Area.
Stuart Rec. Area - The most wooded, "parksy" CG in the area. It is a couple miles outside Elkins. There are a couple dozen sites...most are extremely level. The park also features a huge day-use area (extremely large picnic area/play area, walking trail, and swimming hole. A big plus is all of the river access to Shavers Fork for fishing.)
Pegasus- We drove through this CG last year. The entrance road was gravel, narrow, and full of potholes. The CG itself is very open and clean. Imagine a small family farmhouse with a CG next to it. We talked to the owner..very nice guy. It was a very nice, quiet CG with plenty of room to walk around....just not our cup of tea, as we prefer to be closer to the water and forest. If you want to be close to WM and restaurants, yet feel like you're in the country, then this is your kind of CG.
Shavers Fork/Revelles - These CG's are where we used to stay before we discovered Stuart (which is nearby). These two large CG's are side-by-side along Shavers Fork of the Cheat River...plenty of river access for fishing, tubing, etc.. During the peak season, these CG's resemble a parking lot on grass - VERY crowded. During the off-season, they are rather enjoyable. Shavers Fork (formerly Jellystone Park) has a pool and snack shop. Next door, Revelles has a nicer restaurant (Smoke on the Water is the name, I think) that sits right along the river, and it pretty nice.
So, if you're into a quiet, wooded CG...then go with Stuart. If you want to be closer to town....go with Pegasus. If you don't mind crowds....Shavers Fork/ Revelles. Hope this helps...if you have anymore questions, fire away.
