We are planning a trip at the end of Oct beginning Nov (this year) to Flagstaff, Oak Creek and Sedona for a couple of weeks and would appreciate campground recommendations. We travel with a 30' TT and two dogs.
Thanks for your assistance.

Distant Drums is our choice also. Great location to visit Sedona,Prescott, and Jerome. While the sites are rather close the facilities are great. Rates are very reasonable too. When in this area we are gone from morning till night so sitting around the campground in not a priority for us.

Much like a visit to Sevierville/Gatlinburg,TN, you have to first decide if you want to drive your rig into town to stay, or stay out of town and drive your toad. Once you've decided that, in Sedona, Rancho Sedona is a great place particularly if you get a site that backs onto the creek (70s). If you choose not to stay in Sedona, and drive the toad there, then your choices are; Williams (where there are several nice cg's), Distant Drums (on the 17 across from the casino), or Flag (nothing too great, but a wonderful town).

We stayed at Rancho Sedona for four days last year and would definitely stay there again. It is a nice shady park close to town.

If you have the $$, Rancho Sedona is my recommendation. I didn't care for the back-to-back spaces at Distant Drums. We'll be at Dead Horse Ranch this weekend, but just to ride the Verde Canyon Railroad. It's a pretty baron campground. But then again, this is AZ ๐Ÿ™‚ While we have stayed at the Williams GC RV Park, IMO it's nice if you're taking the train to the canyon, else not. Actually the KOA off of I40 (near Williams) has received good ratings.

Happy camping....

Yep, the Railroad Resort is a BIG parking lot with no shade and you MUST have a snake for your sewer hose or their security will cite you. It's so close to downtown Williams we walked to the grocery store and restaurants a few times.

Did not know this CG was open in 2008. Thought it was fairly new. This one is directly next door to the GC Railway and Hotel.

We stayed at the GC Railway Resort summer of '08 with our grandson. We took the train ride to the canyon, visited Las Vegas, prowled Rt 66 and Williams and even got caught in a sandstorm on our drive up to Page! Grandson wants to come back but without the sandstorm. I'd like to myself only this time to play golf in Arizona. :B

Yes...it is fairly new...but we were there in '08...drove to Page too...sadly there was a fatality on the highway and we had to sit in 100ยฐ plus on the roadway while they cleared the wreck for 3+ hours...thankfully we had the RV as we were letting other motorists use our rest room during the stoppage...but our inconvenience was nothing compared to those involved in that horrible wreck...what a tragedy

The Glenn Canyon Dam is a site to see up there as is driving next to Lake Powell...a beautiful drive...

Back on the CG...yes it sits right next to the Grand Canyon Railway hotel...in fact if you stay at the CG you use the hotel pool...I believe they are all owned by the same company...as is the train/railway to go to the GC...a neat/unique trip...

We would stay at the GC Railway CG again...it is a big resort setting...no grass...all asphalt though...so make sure you are okay with that...

Last time we stayed at Rancho Sedona was in 2007 and thought highly of it. Need to keep the sewer hose off the ground and both ends secure. DO NOT take the Schnebly Hill Rd exit off 17(turns into a Jeep trail 4X4 road), go all the way down to 179.

We had a very pleasant stay in Dead Horse State Park. We were put in the non- services overflow area which for us was virtually empty and quiet.

If you have a mountain bike or just like hiking, ask the ranger about local routes up in the hills.

The walk or ride along the tails that follow the Verde river in the cottonwoods are kinda neat due to the birdlife.

We now stay in Williams at Grand Canyon Railroad RV park or Circle Pines RV. Both are very nice. GC RV park is rather new, modern and allows use of their hotels indoor pool nearby. Around Williams is Bearizona drive thru animal park, deer farm petting zoo, Grand Canyon Railroad, Zip Line and Williams itself on route 66.

When we were in that area back in 2008 we chose to stay in Williams at the Grand Canyon Railway CG as well and it isn't far of a drive to Sedona or Flagstaff...you will be west of both on I-40.

We did like the Route 66 town of Williams and we took the train up to the Grand Canyon...keeping in mind our travels were in July...

Williams is a neat town as is Sedona...after leaving that area we headed north up to Bryce Canyon...

One tip...when in Sedona area...make sure you take the trip up to Jerome...it was once an old copper mining town on the hill...mines dried up and the hippies moved in in the 60's...never left...except today they call themselves "artists"...LOL

Good luck,
Joe.

One more thing about Dead Horse, it is about half the price of Sedona CGs.

I believe Bonito and Pine Grove national forest campgrounds near Flagstaff will be closed at that time. They are excellent choices though.

We love Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood. It's a short drive to Sedona, Jerome, Prescott. Lots to do in the area. Have fun!
