I think I might have missed the deadline for sending in my Form 8840, Closer Connection. This is the first time filing for me and I wasn't aware of the deadline. I am not filing the tax forms, will this cause me any problems in the future? And I did mail the forms this morning!

Thanks for any help or ideas

After doing some searching I found the filing date to be June 15th.In the past few years my days spent in the U.S. having been adding up so I thought it would be good to file the 8840.

Thanks everyone

I think Toban is right as far as the date. I haven't been had to send one in several years but at the time I was working in the US and had a SSN (so probably much more on their radar) and I usually wouldn't get around to sending the form until I did my Corporate taxes in the fall and it was never a problem.

There are no actual dates on the 8840 form just the number of days you were in the states.

Ya the deadline was Jun 15.....I think it will be OK. On a related note, the press has carried a number of articles stating that begining this summer Canada Customs will be advising the US when Canadians return home from the US. Don't fudge the dates on your 8840.(time spent in the US)

No problem, at least you sent them in. They're checking now I understand for people who are in over the limit number of day s as have been discussed in full length over that last couple of years. You don't send in any of your tax info as it's not needed at this time.
