Georgia COE after Labor Day

We will be heading out of Florida after Labor Day. Into Georgia, South Carorolina or maybe Alabama. Looked into staying at a COE at Lake Lanier but it seems like that place is closed then. Could that be true? Did not look into anywhere else, need some advice as to a direction to stay at another COE.

Twin Lakes COE is just outside Anderson SC on Lake Hartwell. It is open year round. Most of the sites are on the lake and many are large and private.

If you choose this one, check the Clemson schedule. The campground fills up when they are playing at home. Also gets quite loud. R. Schaeffer Heard near Ft. Gaines and Cotton Hill near La Grange are quite nice. Watch Cotton Hill for sites that have steep ramps that level off quickly.
Be Blessed!

Two COE parks in Alabama have been updated to FHU and concrete pads. They are Gunter Hill, between Montgomery and Selma and Foscue, near Demopolis. These are two I am familiar with. There may be others.

This is not a CEO park, but McFarland city park in Florence is located on the bank of the Tennessee River. It is very inexpensive (around $20) and accessible to the attractions in the Shoals area. Biking, boating, fishing, golf, shopping and lots of activities in the area. During warm months the city of Florence shuts down main street on the first Friday of each month. Vendors and entertainers are all along a half mile section of the street.

This area has a great history in the music recording industry. FAME recording studio has seen many of the great entertainers during the last 50 years. Lots of talented musicians and singers make their homes in the area.

This is campground used to be a COE campground but is now owned and operated by a municipality and is on Lake Lanier. It is closing, according to the website, on 11-8-13.

We like R. Shaefer Heard Corps of Engineers campground on West Point Lake near LaGrange GA. We like sites 102-105 on the point near the lake.
Oconee Point on Lake Hartwell on GA-SC state line is also nice. Open until Sept 29th.

All the campgrounds on Lake Lanier are closing after Labor Day. But they aren't closing all the Lake Allatoona campgrounds. Also look at West Point Lake over on the Alabama side, just north of I-85. And as Eycom suggested, Lake Strom Thurmond and Lake Hartwell on the South Carolina side. Closing dates will very, but you should find something open

Petersburg at lake Thurmond is a good place. Needs updating, just like any COE campground I've been to though.

Take a look in the area just N.W. of Augusta, Ga. There are numerous C.O.E. parks along the Savannah River where they created some large lakes; Strom Thurmond near Augusta and Lake Hartwell further north near Anderson and Clemson, S.C. I've camped at many of them, however most of them closed during the winter. The closing dates varied, IIRC. Watsadler C.O.E near Hartwell, GA and Petersburg C.O.E in Appling, GA are open year 'round.
