I know Montana has a lot of ghost towns but I'm looking for a particular one. Years ago I saw on TV a show about a ghost town that had a mercantile that was 100% preserved. It had everything in it exactly as it was the day everyone moved out of the town. FINALLY, we're going to be in the area and now I can't remember where that is!!!!! Does anyone on here know where I'm talking about ????? Thank you in advance!

We visited Garnett Ghost town in MT. Pretty awesome. It's about 1 hour from Custer Battlefield.

We really enjoyed our visit to Nevada City, MT and Virginia City, MT. Just be sure if you use the 2 story outhouse at Nevada City that you ALWAYS use the upper story one. Using the lower one can come with exciting surprizes, however, they are free!!!

I have been to several ghost towns I think the one you are referring o is Garnet near Missoula. One other that is neat and there is a CG near is Bannock which is a State Park and the first Territorial Capital of Montana. It's also the site of the first Masonic Lodges in Montana. They still hold meetings there on occasions.

We have been to a town exactly as you described ,but it is in Chloride New Mexico. If ever in that area,it is a must see and they have a great 5 space FHU area right behind the store.

Those two are on our "bucket list." We visited Elkhorn MT in 2009 (it's not the one you're looking for) which has only two preserved buildings. There are a number of permanent residents there so I guess technically it's not a "ghost" town.

If you don't have any luck, try here. The link has a listing by County & would a take a bit of searching through each county individually, but just maybe you'll find it.

I would think it would be in the National Register of historical places.

Not sure of the one you're looking for but we really enjoyed the one in Nevada City outside of Dillon. The two-story outhouse was memorable! ๐Ÿ™‚
