We are moments away from pulling out to head to Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula! We will be at St. Ignace tonight at Castle Rock Campground then heading over to McLain State Park at the base of the Keewanaw for a week, followed by a week at Munising.

If you are out and about in those areas stop on by! Will post some beautiful campground pics.

Instead of Castle Rock Campground go about another 100 yards to Kewadin St. Ignace Casino...they have electric/water hookups for $10.00/night...dump station on the way out...

Also consider the Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Pointe (just north of Paradise, MI)...

Didn't mean to hyjack your thread. Thanks to dverstra. I printed out your suggestions for our trip. Hoping it will be Sept, but if not it will be late May.

We have talked about going to the UP and are thinking about leaving Alabama in early September. We are elderly and my wife is unable to walk long distances. Have always heard it is beautiful and it has advanced to the top of our bucket list. We want to try to get set up in one campground and spend a week or so sight seeing that area before moving to another spot for a similar period. Being retired, we are in no rush.

We are pretty much stuck with driving and looking. Usually try to find a campground to use for a base and take day trips.

We don't do much fishing.

There are some great sights to see from a boat or car.
US2 just west of the Mac Bridge with its views of Lake Michigan.
Freighters just coming out of the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie
Lake Superior shoreline just west of Munising.
Take a ferry to Mackinaw Island and a horse drawn carriage around it.
Pictured Rocks cruise.
Presque Isle Park just north of Marquette
Take the ferry from Houghton to Isle Royale.
just to name a few

Have fun in the UP, eh! Us trolls need to sprinkle a few tourist dollars up there occasionally. Never stopped at McClain SP. is it your usual stop or something new? I want to fish the Portage Canal there sometime but would probably stay at the Houghton City Park.
