Hoover Dam - Leave pen knife behind.

We're in Las Vegas for 8 nights and decided to visit Hoover Dam. We were there 40 years ago and wanted to see it again... The area was really crowded and parking was scarce, but we found space about as far away up the hill as you can get... A really long walk down. After getting some pics of the Dam and the new bridge, we took the 54 steps down into the visitor center and had to empty pockets and walk through x-rays. I carry a really small folding knife on my keychain and was advised that could not enter. I've had this piece 40+ years and did not want to discard it so we had to leave - back up the 54 steps, then back to the truck which was exhausting... My pen or camera, or credit cards would do more damage than that knife! Oh well, that's our Feds at work.

So you're in favor of allowing knives to be taken inside the dam? How about air planes? It's far easier to ban ALL such materials than to put the decision in the hands of a minimum wage employee.

Are you referring to the minimum wage employees that take that stuff home and sell it on ebay like the airplne security people? Outrageous.

Visited he Empire State Bldg several years ago and security told me I couldn't take my small pocket knife but said leave it a the desk and I could pick it up on the way out. Of course, I forgot to pick it up and a week or so later I remembered where I left it. With nothing to lose, I emailed the ESB and asked if I could get my knife back. They said sure if I could describe it. Did the best I could but they sent me the wrong knife. I returned their knife and tried again to describe mine. They got it right the second time and I thanked them profusely. Cost them $5 each to return the knife. Forgot to pick up my knife at the Court House in Honolulu in 2000. Never got that one back.

Never mind the guy with the ISIL flag around his head or those who look deathly ill. Glad to see the Feds rooting out domestic terrorists

Thanks for info. If we decide to go we'll empty our pockets first. I agree. No way I would donate my 40 year old jackknife to those people.

We wanted to ride our MC across.

You can drive a car or truck. Not sure about an RV of any type.
