Long Key SP, Fla Keys: Res boo-boo & Class B RV in Tent-only

I managed to find 6 nights here in January when someone else cancelled, and had done a search specifically for an RV site; when the availability came up (after weeks of checking), naturally, I snagged it. However, after getting my confirmation email, I saw that the reservation was for a tent site only.

This is the search features mistake, not mine, but I don't think that matters one wit, since I called the campground directly and they said that (to paraphrase) that I wouldn't be comfortable with my rv in site 2 (listed with a 15 ft max vehicle limit, and for 2 persons only),

FWIW, I will have a 19 ft rv, and I am, of course, very reluctant to cancel my reservation since they're so hard to get, and I thought of 2 solutions:

1. Go down and give it a shot with the 19 ft rv (they didn't say NO difinitively),

and / or

2. Park the rig in the overflow parking area (which I understand is about as far as one can be from site 2...seems it's past site 60, which has me confused too, since I could have sworn there were only 57 sites) and use tent gear at the site.

Of course, I'll keep looking for another cancellation and NOT rely on the search feature, but rather read the fine print as quickly as I can to nab a new cancellation.

But is anyone here familiar with Site 2? Do you think a 19 foot vehicle would fit there? And do you know how far the overflow parking is from site 2 (the person I spoke to didn't know, just said "far").

Any ideas to make this work would be appreciated.

Thank you. Yeah, I've seen the pics, so I know how small it is, and I'm really not sure I'd be happy there, but who could turn down 6 winter nights in the keys when it comes up??

Anyway, it's only a days drive for me, so if it doesn't work, I could just leave. Will keep looking though.

Site 2 shouldn't even be listed as a campsite IMO. Keep looking

You won't be a happy camper!

We camp at Long Key every winter, and those first few sites are only good for tents. A pop up won't even fit there.
If you don't mind tenting there and leaving your rig down the far end you will be Ok, but I would bring a bike. It is a decent walk down to where it would be parked. I am guessing about close to a half a mile

I would give it a shot in a small B van but bring along tenting gear. You will be very visible in that site, and the camp host might deem your van to be longer than the official 15 feet if it seems too stick out into the roadway at all.

If so, you can just set up your tent, unload your stuff, park down at the far end and walk back(the map does show 60 sites and a loop at the end of the road for extra car and boat parking). It's not miles away. People stroll from one end of that campground to the other for morning walks.

The site description fine print does actually read as follows: "Tent or Van only; Pop-up's will not fit." Interesting that "van" is mentioned.

But be aware - those first few tent sites are pretty exposed - they really are right by the road with minimal driveway length and not much privacy from foliage. So you are smart to keep checking for cancellations in bigger sites.

I almost booked a tent site by mistake for Bahia Honda one time in my excitement to actually find any availability. So I sympathize.
