Montana Camping

My perfect campsite: I pull up in my 5th wheel, unhook, get the awning and lawn chairs out, start a fire and wade out in the river or stream and do a little fly fishing while Susie sits by the campfire reading a book. Now all I have to do is clean the fish.:B

Check out the Montana Fishing Access sites. It's on the state DNR website. Many of them allow overnight camping.

I do love Montana.

I have acquired a great history in Montana: a relative was a sheriff in Virginia City, a deep-shaft mine in Butte named after another relative, and another the head engineer for the Anaconda Company. My cousins used to work in Yellowstone NP and I would stay with them and explore in the park when I was a kid. We just placed my mother's ashes beside the "M" in Butte where she was born.

I've been traveling to Montana for over 65 years, and love my experiences there.

We have friends that have a 32,000 acre ranch with 3 miles on the Yellowstone River and a mile long spring creek in the Paradise Valley south of Livingston. It's rated as one of the best fly-fishing streams in America and part of a "A River Runs Through It" was filmed there. We visit there every September, and cook for the friends/ranchers in exchange for fishing and camping. A truly magical experience.

Nothing compares to Montana. What a gem you have discovered. I'm envious.
