Myrtle Beach bans tents & umbellas

FYI

I just read that Myrtle Beach has followed North Myrtle Beach in banning tents on the beach, but took it a step further and apparently has banned the use of umbrellas also.

I am not sure how that affects the campgrounds as most are in Horry County and not within the city limits of either MB or NMB, but it may follow suit.

LOL! I`ll gladly chase flip flops into the surf every day rather than working!

E fun part is collecting all the other flip flops. Lol. Reminds of the chattahoochee in Helen Georgia. There's an area on the side of the river littered with flip flops that people lost while floating down the river. Need some flops? Go there first. Lol

Yes, it's the 10x10 ez up types. And the ban will make it better for you since you don't have one. Trust me, when you go there and they are pole to pole down the beach as far as you can see and 2 or 3 deep, it makes it difficult for people to find a place to go to. Especially high tide as someone mentioned.

The EZ-ups and older versions of that type that may not be so easy to put up, although I have seen larger enclosed tents like you could camp in set up out there. It won't affect us either. We have two 6' tents each of us uses and two chairs and a cooler when we are out on the beach, which is usually mid morning until late afternoon. We lower the umbrellas and fold up the chairs when we go back to the camper for lunch, which is usually no more than 45 minutes.

And what kind of tents are people putting out on the beach? or are they talking about the EZ-ups? I don`t have one, so it does not affect me. I do agree people get rude with their tents and umbrellas when they put them out there just in case they "may" make it to the beach.

LOL...when y'all going this year? We don't have anything planned there this year. Going to Destin in April and Hilton Head July 4th week. I have to work weekends in August, so we won't go then. Guess we may try for a weekend sometime this year.

When we go we stay more towards the North end of the strand. The condo we stay at is near the Apache campground. Haven't really seen that many canopies that area but the beach is a lot less crowded there too. I hope they don't ban the umbrellas as I've had some skin cancer in the past and like to be in the shade when I'm not in the water. The umbrella we take is probably around 6 foot in diameter and we do sit even or behind the life guard chair.

Myrtle Beach Travel Park and Apache are within Myrtle Beach inside Horry County. The beach cleaning, maintenance and other municipal services are provided by the city of MB so I imagine we'll be subject to the MB regulations.

The new rules banning tents and possibly umbrellas affect the beaches within the city limits of Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. I believe all of the oceanfront campgrounds are outside the city limits in Horry County. However the county has the same ordinances on the table and will likely pass them in the near future.

I also understand that the umbrella ban is for anything exceeding 7 1/2 ft in diameter. So I guess the lifeguards will have to add a tape measure to the equipment they carry around. 😉

At this point. It applies in the MB city limits, However as mentioned soon to be all over Horry county is some form.
