Parking a Motorhome in Chicago?? Suggestions..

Some friends are going to visit us when they arrive from CA in their motorhome. They cannot park on the street near us so we are looking for some place they can park their motorhome at and stay in it while visiting the Chicago area.

Someone told us about a spot near the Lake by McCormick Place but I cannot find any information about it. Anybody know about this place, name, phone number or any other information?

The closest place I have been able to find is the IL State Beach campground but that is about an hour North of Chicago in Zion, IL.

We live on the North Side of Chicago.

Would appreciate any and all suggestions or tips from folks.

TIA, John S.

We went to Chicago in November, and I had a chance to check out the marshaling yard, too.

There is a commuter train (Metra Electric) that runs on the tracks next to the marshaling yard, though the station is kind of a pain to get to from the yard, and the schedule isn't super convenient for getting around town. It's a short walk over to MLK & 31st to hop on the #3 bus which runs every 10 minutes. There's also a Divvy bike share stand right on the overpass. (Ok ok I know, most RV'ers are probably not into bike share :))

I stayed there a few years ago during the Chicago Blues festival. I stayed in the RV with a friend and had a great time. It's just a large parking lot for semi trucks and they also sell parking for the sports events held nearby. We had no trouble getting a taxi to and from there and we were never hassled. They have security cameras that cover the entire parking area. We found a spot next to the train tracks next to another RV that was there. No hookups but you can get water from a hose near the office. Supposedly there is a subway stop nearby but we never found it.

According to the rvparkreview linked in my post on page 1, yes, you can. That is an old post, but assume it's still the same. All of this assumes the yard is still there, too, as there has been a lot of building and expansion in the area. I would definitely call and, if anyone does, please post back what you find out.

P.S. Juan Carlos' post above appears to indicate it is, in fact, still there and available.

Wow, the Marshalling Yards is a great find. I did a little research, and discovered you can also pre-pay so you're guaranteed parking. https://www.truticket.com/bus_eventparking_1.aspx

Didn't they build a park where Meigs Field use to be? I would park there just out of principle.

I think this is the info about McCormick Place you're liking for. I remember seeing it before, but have no idea about it currently. Good luck!
