We will be going to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg this summer. Looking for a nice campground with full hookups to stay in. Any suggestions?

No comment on campground but last time we went we stayed over toward townsend on a tip from a local - less traffic but the main think I wanted to add is it is well worth the drive for 2 - 3 things. first Tuckaleechee Caverns is beautiful and a great visit, the riding stable right by the entrance rd to the caverns and a beautiful ride. also after many visits to the smokeys - EVERY time we went to cades cove we saw black bears - otherwise they have been pretty elusive

We always stay on the Townsend side of the Natl Park. My first choice is ELKMONT CAMP inside the Natl Park but sometimes have to go with the wife likes - Then I go to the hookup sites in Townsend. If that doesn't work for the wife then we finally go to Riveredge RV Park and Log Cabin Rentals that is located just as you enter Pigeon Forge coming from the Gatlinburg side. Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge is just way to crowded for me to enjoy any of it...

I like to go do the Galtlinburg/Pigeon Forge shopping thing and great places to eat out but don't like the idea of staying in the middle of all of that. My real camping love is staying in the woods somewhere next to a creek bed haha...

Big Meadows Campground in Townsend is very nice. It is also a very easy drive to Pigeon Forge.

We have stayed in many over the years, but we keep going back to Pine Mtn. There are lots of suggestions for Riverside and it's nice, but on the Sevierville side of Pigeon Forge (PF), so you have to deal with heavy traffic in/out. Many of the others are outside in the mountains and the drive in/out can take you 45-2 hrs even though they are less than 30 miles away. Anchors Down is another one that is suggested often. It's a fabulous but again, it's not convenient, or at least as convenient as I want it to be. When I have to fight traffic for over an hour to get the Dollywood, that just isn't my idea of a good vacation.
