If you are going to the OBX, you better check before you leave. Ocracoke and Hatteras island have mandatory evacuations for visitors because of no power.News link

Things will be back to normal at noon tomorrow. Re-entry is only thru priority 3 until noon Aug 4th. At noon no restrictions.

I know it is of little relief to the business on the islands and to visitors who may have lost money but still the workers did one heck of a job repairing it this soon.

this is great to hear and much appreciated! Big thanks to those at the power company that are putting in long days.

My wife and I own a small business so I can only imagine what some of those business owners down there on the island are going through.

Repairs are almost complete. Electric company believes island will have power by Friday. Visitors may start coming back in late Saturday or Sunday at this time.

Workers really put in long hours to get things done this quickly.

The article I read said mandatory evacuation for all visitors.

I take that as similar to their hurricane evacuations.

You wouldn't want all those folks with self-contained campers enjoying themselves now would you?

I wonder if we'll soon see helicopter footage of a certain governor from a little north of there on the vacated beaches with his family? ๐Ÿ˜œ

I did see they mentioned a possibility power could be restored in as little as 6 days. Im still hopeful for that.

Yes mandatory evacuation plus the governor had declared a state of emergency on both islands.

This morning it was announced a class action lawsuit against the construction company building the new bridge has been filed. I suspect it will get nasty in the future.

I'm sure the powers to be are doing everything possible to get things up and running asap. The revenue lost by the meters not turning must be astronomical.

It was just updated that only two of the three lines was damaged. The first one has already been repaired and now they are working to expose and repair the second one. They are also working to install overhead temp lines at the same time. The report said they are unsure which one can be completed the fastest and restoring power is the top priority.

So maybe, just maybe it will only be a couple of more days before power is restored.

Its a pity that the utility doesn't have a repair team connecting in a temporary splice until the proper repair is performed. Living in a tourist community myself, not only are vacationers losing but so are the business owners. In my town you need to make 12 months of money in under 6 months. Everyone is losing big time.

News out of Raleigh this AM is that all 3 lines are "compromised". Odd choice of word for severed. I guess our beach house in Avon starting on the 12th is questionable. We'll see I guess.
Some folks have made other arrangements north of the break but that could backfire. Like if the power comes back on the day before the reservation starts and you already paid for a place in Duck also. Whoops!
Gordon3 has a good point, lay new cables bypassing the break and fix the current break in November. A seasonal area like OBX can ill afford a catastrophe like this. Storms are bad enough but this was just stupid.
