So write him a letter and tell him you will write a check for all the deductions you have ever taken and maybe he will do the same.

Now, there's a thought!

How 'bout it Mort!

I personally could not imagine having to make the hard budgetary decisions that have to be made in order to try to get our runaway debt under control. I suspect that there will be a lot of things that he would like to fund, that just can't get done. Heck, there's a lot of things I want to do personally, but my budget won't allow. I am glad that the NPS gets to decide and it didn't go to some 'pretty up DC' project. Heck, I don't care if it used to stock up on toilet paper.. fact is, it will go to something that otherwise, you and I (and the rest of us taxpayers) would have to pay for.

I suppose if he donated $780,000 (ten time this amount) of his own money, that wouldn't be enough for folks like 2gypsies. Sorry toedtoes, no matter how you try to interpret that statement it is the most ignorant, stupidass, piece of bulshit post I have ever read from anyone on this forum.

I see nothing negative in his donation. It will be interesting to see where he donates the next quarter's salary (not being snarky, just interested to see what other areas he sees as needing). But, again, I think whether his act is a "good thing" or not depends on his support of NPS in whole as president, not on a single donation.

As for the donation itself, it will be up to NPS to use it in the best way possible. They will need to decide whether to piece-meal it out to various units to do a little bit here and there, or to use it to do a more visible major project at one unit. In and of itself, $78,000 is a nice donation. Let's hope it gets put to good use.

Interesting, could you define how this is accomplished. I thought the IRS was in control of tax code and individuals and businesses applied the tax code to their situation. Are you saying he broke the law? He seems pretty high profile to have ever escaped IRS scrutiny. I worked part time for a small business owner and also sold him products. He filed bk and I was out a small amount of money. It wasn't personal and we continued to work together again and actually be friends. It's legal and just business that's covered by the IRS.

Any business or individual uses the code as written. Surely you dont go against the code so you can pay more than required. Do you?

No taxes dodged, he paid what he legally was required to pay. Just like you and I. Another stupdass comment, but not as bad as the others.

Yeah, I might get banned, so be it. Some of y'all have stooped to new all time lows.

Will be interesting to see if he shuts down the parks when budget come around.

That is about the most ridiculous and insane statement I have ever heard. $78,000 will do NOTHING for even a SINGLE park.

Total horshit.

Mike

I think what 2gypsies was saying is that $78,000 is not going to do anything for the running of the parks. It would allow for a one-time upgrade/repair/etc., but in the long run the parks will still be in the same situation as they are now.

My comment had nothing to do with politics. The point is that other presidents have declined to accept a salary (George Washington) or donated it to charity (Herbert Hoover, JFK). In addition, Obama donated his Nobel prize money to charity ($1.4 million).

In reality, a president cannot refuse his/her salary. Therefore, when you are as rich as Trump, Hoover, JFK, etc., you either take the salary (and the public sees you as greedy because you didn't refuse it) or you donate it. Had he NOT donated it, Trump would have looked bad, especially after he said he would refuse a salary if elected (obviously not realizing that he would not be legally able to refuse it).

Back on the OP topic, while donating is a good thing, it isn't a solution to a lack of funding. It's a patch. Whether his support of NPS is real or not will be determined when the budget is passed.
