Recommendations for Jan-March....Desert SW...

I'm on mission to pay a few things off and would like to find an affordable place starting Jan 1 for three months. I'm a single female in a large 5th wheel and for the first time in 9 years on the road with my internet business have had one horrible experience after another so I'm at a low ebb at the moment. Here's a brief description of what I'm looking for:

I have no generator and would need to be plugged in.

I don't need anything in the way of amenities but a nice clean place run by pleasant people who care about what kind of people are in the park is important to me. As is safety.

I like an open feeling, not a lot clutter around. Orderly. Palm trees in the desert appeal to me. Would like to avoid a lot of noise, partying ATV traffic etc...

I like open Good Verizon internet and phone signal.

Near a decent sized town/city as I need to be able to transfer money into my PayPal account for supply orders. Presently doing that via cards you can only get at CVS and a few other places.

Thanks for your input.

P.s. I wouldn't worry about not having a site, just not a premium site. The sister will put your reservation in!

The scenario is exactly what we experienced. The owner is a retired doctor, but his Vietnamese wife runs the show. She is super sweet and helpful, so until you speak to her you won't really know what site you will be given. You spoke to her sister, who's English is marginal. Ask when the owners will be back, then call them and pin her down for a site. You most likely won't get a site bordering the desert, but the other sites are nice and you will have access to the desert trails wherever you are. Good luck!

Ok, I got a space at Justin's. Should I request any particular area or space? Anyone have any favorites? Up against the desert looks nice. And will my Verizon internet work there? And what is the mail situation. PO box in town? UPS delivery? Just curious at this point. There is time to sort that out.

We reserved up against the desert months in advance, but when we arrived we were told those spaces are always taken by repeat visitors and reneged on the space. We were disappointed and moved to another spot. If she offers a desert spot, be sure and get a confirmation! The very front line by the road is the least desirable, the rest are all equally nice. We used our AT&T hotspot and got DirectTV. It is hard to get any OTA tv. Also, be sure you have extra sewer hose as some of the hook ups are a bit long.

Ahh..thanks for this. The whole thing felt a bit weird. The woman asked for my name and rig length, said she had a space for me then said, "Ok, bye." I hung up sort of going, "huh"? I called back with a few more questions then found out that the the owners were on vacation. The woman there had a thick accent and wasn't really able to answer questions. So between that and what you said I'll be sure to get confirmation. They have such good ratings/reviews but I sure wouldn't want to show up and find out there wasn't a space after all.

Have you thought of camp hosting at a Arizona State Park or a Maricopa County Park?

I don't want to move too often as I work full-time so I generally avoid state/county parks for that reason.

As a host your stay can be from 1 month to 3 months and you get a free site for a minimal time commitment that you might be able to work around.

Oh...I didn't see the word "hosting". Hmm...not sure I'd have the time but it's worth looking into. Thanks!

You might want to read these reviews on Justin's. I just glanced and a couple said internet/cell is good by the park Wifi is not. If you have your own internet connection then it sounds like you'll do o.k.

As far as site choice, we always pick one with no one to our rear or sides, if possible. It gives you more privacy and a more open feel.

Is there a park map you can view to see where the sites are or plug in the address on Google View so you can see the park?

Mountain biking and hiking are awesome in the Desert Trails/Justin's area. You're right next to Tucson Mountain Park with lots of trails.

A place to consider is Justins diamond J RV park in Tucson AZ. It is about 10 miles south of I-19 off Ajo way. Very quiet, very large spaces, reasonable cost. Owners are very nice and we just like the place. Close to anything you might need but you not "in it". I live in Alamogordo NM, population 35,000, and it has many RV options as well. When you say the South West you have more options than you can imagine. Goof luck in your endeavor.

Justin's is great. Right next door is Desert Trails which I believe is cheaper. While you don't need a lot, Desert Trails has tons of activities, wonderful people, and is just a great place to stay. There are a lot of single people who winter there.

Thanks so much, Everyone! Lots of things I'd never looked into before. I like the idea of this place and of Desert Trails. that's just the kind of spot I was looking for. And I'm a mountain biker. I'm trying today to get into either of these. On the wait list for Desert Trails. Waiting to hear back from Justin's. If I can't get in I'll reserve for next year. I may even run down on the weekend sometime and take a look at them both.

I really appreciate you all taking the time to give me such specific information. New trajectory...feels good.
