Recommendations for West Virginia and Kentucky.

Have July 4th week off and we are thinking of heading north and not the beach that week. We haven't camped in West Virginia and Kentucky. Might be a good time to add them or one of them to the map. Would love to hear some recommendations. Prefer full hook up, but water/electric with dump station would be ok.

Also let us know what there is to do there.

Kentucky, depending on what part of the state you are going to

Western Ky - Land Between the Lakes
Central Kentucky - Kentucky Horse Park
Eastern Kentucky - Breaks Interstate Park

West Virginia - Chief Logan State Park

Stay near Northern Kentucky and there will be plenty of activities in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati areas for Fourth of July. Big Bone Lick State Park near Union and Oak Creek Campground in Verona are a couple of campgrounds in the NKY area. General Butler State Park in Carrollton, which is one of our favorite state parks, is about an hour away from Cincinnati, and also puts you close to Louisville.

We have stayed in Kentucky Horse Park several times, and a year ago we spent a night at Stonewall Jackson State Park in WV.

Recommend both highly.

Anywhere in either states that offer good 4th of July activities? Don't wanna get caught up in something really urge, but maybe a small town that gets festive.

The corvette factory/museum is in Bowling Green, KY. Interesting tour. They used to pick someone out of the group to start a car at the end of the line. I got picked. Very cool!

It would be a shame to go to Kentucky and not visit Mammoth Caves. Just amazing.
If you are going in the summer, you can avoid the hottest times of the day by doing a cave tour at that time. It's always a steady 60 degrees in the caves.

We stayed at the Yogi Bear just down the road and had a really good time; they have a pool and water slide that our kids took advantage of every day. Mammoth Cave has a campground right next to it that is probably very convenient, but we wanted the full hook ups and pool.

X2 Kentucky horse Park. The Bourbon Trail is nearby. Campground is great. No sewer hookup at sites but multiple dump sites.

If you get into WV, try to visit the New River Bridge.

The actual name of the campground is Kendall Campground. Here is a link to their reservation site. There are also some pictures on the site. Very nice campground as are most of the COE campgrounds. As stated before, it is located just below Wolf Creek Dam on the Cumberland River. Beautiful scenery and great fishing.
