Is that legal?
http://orlando.craigslist.org/vac/4337297387.html

It's posted on Orlando Craigslist:
Rare opportunity to get sites in Bahia Honda State Park on short notice!
2 campsites in high-demand, water-front state park in the Florida Keys. (Big Pine Key area)
Sites were reserved 11 months in advance, however, family plans changed, so we do not have use for these sites this year. Nice, quiet, family park.

These two sites have electric and water, and serve for tents, campers or RV rigs up to 30' or 36'. 50 amp electrical service and water at both sites, shared bath houses.
Sites are reserved for the following dates:
Site #6: March 3-14, 2014, 11 nights and fits RVs up to 36' in length
Site #26: March 4-14, 2014, 10 nights and fits RVs up to 30' in length (this is a shaded site next to water-front sites)
Pet-friendly park

Info about park: http://www.floridastateparks.org/bahiahonda/

We will sell each site for $900
This is less than a commercial RV park nearby, and the water/beach experience is incomparably superior at Bahia Honda. (We know from experience!)

Please refer to State Park website for park questions.
Call Tom to purchase (four-zero-seven, 421-7902). Serious inquiries only.

I agree, it's not right.
I complained and received a response:
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We are currently tracking this issue, and would appreciate notification of any further listings you might see.

Lottery or not, we support the State Parks with our tax $ and I don't want my tax $ to be used by scalpers.
Plus, even if the demand is much greater than the supply, it is not an excuse to further reduce supply (availability of sites) by this kind of scam.

Thanks, hopefully our efforts will shut down this fraud

Interesting that phone numbers in both AD's lead back to a person named Tom. Most likely the same person. One of the AD's is actually a business TSRV (Tom and Stephanie)RV and I so hope the DEP IG busts them on it.

I have contacted the DEP Inspector General concerning both AD's and received this response;

"Thank you very much. We will look into this concern.

Inspector General"

Hopefully they will cancel these clowns reservations!

I sort of have to agree with Dog Folks - while I am not sure reselling or even renting reserved spaces is legal, and in my opinion is not a good practice for the park system or others staying in the park - a reservation is a reservation, and if they got it using the current lottery system - which seems to be pretty fair, everything considered - they had the same chance as everybody else at 8:00AM exactly 11 months before the reservation. I don't think it makes much difference if you have 3000 or 3500 people all trying for the same spot - it is the luck of the draw, and only one person is going to get it. If they got it fair and square, there is not really effecting anybody else's chances.

Wondered why it was so hard...impossible...to get sites this year.

That's $ 240.00 a night.
I also emailed the State Park.
Now I understand why I can never get a site.

This has been tried before, many times over the years, but the real reason you can't get sites is:

It is simple math:

1. Number of State Parks in the Florida Keys: 4

2. Number of RV sites available in all 4 parks added together: 221

3. Number of Tent only sites. (Canโ€™t be used for RVโ€™s): 30

4. Number of people from all over the country that want to camp in the Keys in the winter?

Lots and a Lots and Lots!!

That's cute. That guy is apparently not selling the reservation, but giving it free with the rental of his RV.

I thought it would eliminate this kind of stuff if name changes weren't allowed on reservations, but in this case the guy who got the reservation will show up (with his picture ID if he's asked for one), check in, set up the camper and collect his inflated price for the site.

Gotta admit he's come up with a brilliant way to game the system. UGH.

What about the person who fell for it. He/she arrives at the Park and doesn't have identification to match their reservation profile. All Florida SP's have a computerized system. I think it was a hoax. lizzie
