Just stumbled across this while having my morning coffee at the computer. If you enjoy learning something new when you travel, there are some very interesting museums and attractions on the list. I like the interactive map, too.

Smithsonian Affiliates

Edited to add: Pleased to see some unusual things included like the Museum of Psychology in Akron, OH, the beautiful ship USS Constitution in Boston, and the International Museum of the Horse in Lexington, KY.

Yes, the Buffalo Bill Center made quite an impression on me, too. As did the Durham Museum in Omaha - one of my favorites.

Good question! Affiliates are not owned by Uncle Sam (unless they are also National Historic Sites), so they shouldn't be affected. For example, the Idaho Museum of Natural History is open. Mount Vernon is open, too, so check before changing plans, I guess.

I noticed when we visited last month that the Buffalo Bill Center of the West was an affiliate too. Really a first class collection and presentation.

My guess is they are all open.

Neat.....
So, are they closed due to the shut-down?
