Haven't been there in several years. Last time, around 2006, we had a 37' fifth wheel trailer and found a spot (I think 59) with plenty of room. We now have a 40' motorhome and wondering if anyone has managed to get a 40 footer into one of the spots like 59 designated for 38', which is the largest they list.

I'm pretty sure one of our neighbors, on an earlier trip, had a 40' in 59 with no problems, but not positive it was that site.

Anyone who is familiar with this problem please respond. This is one of the places we would like to get back to, but don't want to get there and find out we're out of luck.

I know you have to book way ahead unless you happen to get lucky. Sometimes checking several times a day will pay off. We were headed west and were attempting to find a large site in Yosemite Pines camping area for three nights. That's one of the really tough tickets. Checked several times a day on the way out and got lucky. Found a two night site and then later found three nights, like I was looking for.

Being retired, having little to tie us down, I have learned that my best bet is to look for dates in late August, in September or October. That's after the kids start back to school and before most snowbirds head south. Competing with those that need reservations that work for families with school children is not fair to them or to me.

Good luck on booking a site, it seems that T H Stone SP at St Joe, and Dr Julian Bruce SP on St. George Island are always book full anytime I check the reservations system.

Here's a photo of Site 59:

We've never been bothered by sand fleas like we were there. Couldn't even open the windows as they would just waltz right in through the screens.

We were there a couple of months ago. I wouldn't try to fit a 40' in any of the interior sites, but that's just me. I don't remember site 59, I just remember how claustrophobic that area was.

I would stick to the outside of the loop. We stayed in site 4 with a 35'; you should be able to fit there. 3 and 2, if I remember correctly, were also long enough.

You might check out the other loop - 90-100 or so should be long enough.

Best of luck and enjoy your trip!

We were there Christmas Week 2014. Apart from lots of rain and some flooding, it was a pretty great trip. As far as the campground goes, make reservations or you won't get a spot at all. We had to make reservations for the week of Christmas, and when we got there, every spot was filled. (and this was December, and not even prime camping season). I think long gone are the days of just pulling in and picking a spot and parking.

About the size of sites, I think every site was suitable for 40 footers with no problem at all. We were on site 40, had plenty of room.
