I'm looking into getting a fifth wheel for our family of 6 so we'd like a fairly good sized one but I'm concerned about what's allowed in Texas state and national parks. Can't find much info on the web. Anyone have experience? Thanks so much.

Spider,
If you are the same person who posted on the fifth wheel forums and was looking at pulling a fifth wheel this would be a good forum to post what your planning on pulling your fifth wheel with.If it is a F250 as stated on the other forum you will run out of payload capacity with your family and pin weight real fast. Look at the ford tow guide I posted and you will discover no f250 will haul a 20,000 pound fifth wheel.
Just do your homework before you go buy anything.

I think I have been to most every SP in Texas, and never found one that would accommodate my 40 footer. Some do have a limited number of sites that I will fit in, so I would NEVER go to the park without reservations.

Just be sure to correctly select the size of your 5er on the reservation site when you make your reservations. It is first come first served upon arrival, so get there early!!

I also like the Corp of Engineer parks. There you can actually reserve a specific site.

Thanks guys. That helps a lot. Now just tell me which make to get and I'll be set.

Most Texas State parks will has sites large enough for a 40 or even larger. Depending which park it's a good idea to get there early as they do not guarantee reserved sites. I have a 34' and have had to switch sites for it to work but they will work with you if there are other sites available.

Ditto, many NP were CCC projects back in the 1930's

I think it depends on the park..Took my 40' 5er to Texas Choke Canyon State Park. I could have put 2 that size on my site.

Anything over 30 ft can be a problem in NP, don't know about TSP.
