Thanksgiving in Yosemite

I was one of the few lucky ones to grab a spot in November upon today's release. I hope the weather cooperates when the time comes. I'm really looking forward to it.

Great trip, awesome weather, cold & clear (35 low 62 high) and absolutely no crowds. Upper Pines campground is walking distance to Curry Village. Thanksgiving dinner at The Mountain Room turned out very well. The Bounder performed great. I don't think I'd go this time of year again, though - weather is too iffy, we were really fortunate in that department. A summer trip would be nice at some point in the future but I'm not into crowds.

No matter how cold it is, be sure to get outside and see the falls at night -- we managed to catch a moonbow:



It looks like you will have almost no moon at the end of November -- but that means that the stars (and especially the Milky Way) will be very bright -- try to get away from the lights in the Valley and let your eyes adapt to the darkness.

Hopefully the weather will be great. What a wonderful place to spend Thanksgiving.

We were ther in April one year, still snow on the ground in some places. Would get below freezing at night. Jacket cool during the day. One of my best memories is a drive at night through the valley at 1AM on a full moon night. It was clear and the granite glistened from the moon light. Waterfalls were unearthly looking in that light. If only I had thought to bring the video camera.
