Thefts at Jesse M. Honeyman State Park

Just a heads up for anyone going to Honeyman. We went last weekend and heard of the theft of a spendy bicycle that was chained up in Loop C. We were in Loop H for access to the dunes to ride the toys. Loop H suffered a theft early Sunday morning. My son had two gas jugs in the back of his truck, one empty, the other full. The full one got taken. The thievery, from what we heard from a camp host, usually happens in the early, early morning. They figure its a local(s) who cruises the camp early in the day looking for stuff to steal. Usually, everything our group has is put away or concealed in some sort of way, just not this one night.

We camp at a lot of Oregon State parks and have never had a problem before. I'm just trying to save anyone camping there any grief.
Lock it up or put it out of sight.

On the other hand we had a great time as usual.

Better with half-and half gas and water in the jugs for the gas odor?

Or, Claymores around your site .. you know which end faces the "enemy"?

Or 50/50 gasoline and diesel fuel. Just follow the smoke cloud to catch the thieves. :B

Would be good to put up some concealed game camera's to catch the individual.

With a few cups of sugar mixed in.

Priceless.

I love Honeyman, great place. But Florence has it share of issues. We rode there over spring break for about 10 years in a row, never a theft from our site, but it happened occasionally to others that don't lock things up. Miss the days when they had a Ranger at the entry gate ๐Ÿ˜ž

All of our ATVs were locked with heavy duty cable & lock, usually with covers as well. We usually kept eight 5 gallon gas jugs, that were also locked up.

One of my favorite devices is a Lock Alarm, if the cable is cut it screams off at 129db. The blinking red light is a deterrent too.
