things stolen in Scadden Wash (Quartzsite)

there's a website I'm on that's reported a compressor, brand new in box, a Dish Tailgater that was padlocked and chained to the motorhome, and also a generator out of a truck.


All of these things were chained and padlocked. Someone sure must have slept well, not sure I could sleep through the noise of someone cutting a cable :@

what is that area full of dry campers on the south side of the fence, right next to/south of Rice ranch ?

Where is Scadden Wash and is it LTVA? We are at La Posa West very close to the tent about 150 yards south. But we may want to look for something more remote. We are only about 25 yards from 95.

We're camping right now in a very secure place right close to all the action in Quartzite, within walking distance to almost everything. A large RV Club made up of retired police and sheriff folks is even camped a few yards from us. We're not particularly crowded here either. $7 per night rate. Generator hours are 7:00 in the morning to 10:00 at night, too ... but very few are using them even with those generous hours.

I guess I'm not sure what this thread is really about. :h

For Scadden we drive east on the frontage road until it deadends. Turn right and head far south. Absolutely no traffic noise.

As far as thief...it's no worse than in your hometown. This isn't something that happens on a continuous basis day after day. We have stayed in the Scadden area many times and love it. It is perfectly safe. Just use common sense when you keep things outside and in plain view.

question. I've wondered this. We camped here twice. The sound from the freeway seemed deafening to me. How do you deal with it? We then moved to Plomosa and the silence was deafening lol

When I camp I like reasonable quietness (unless it's Glamis, then I get it lol) Just something I've wondered.

I got the same noise when we camped at the VFW in Yuma. 95 noise and trains all the time.

We lock up everything at night. We learned at Rincon in Ventura from a RVer next to us. His Honda 3000 was locked with a very heavy cable and lock. The thieves came by when the train passed and cut the cable.
We did pick up a few driveway alarms from Harbor Freight. They have a small motion detector that you can place anywhere and a larger alarm. I have on occasion set it up at Yosemite using 2 units with the same channel. Place the 2 motion detectors a strategic spot around items to be protected and one alarm outside on the roof and the other inside. Never had it go off. You could place one viewing your item(s) needing protection and the other under something of great value like a generator. In the morning, you can shut off the alarms and then go to your protected things.
I should go to Harbor Freight today and buy a bunch and sell them at Quartzsite when we go Monday. They go on sale periodically for $11.95t but I think they are currently $18.99 each.

That picture is funny. It's taken of beautiful downtown Quartzsite. It's not of the surrounding desert areas where folks boondock.

As far as thief...it's no worse than in your hometown. This isn't something that happens on a continuous basis day after day. We have stayed in the Scadden area many times and love it. It is perfectly safe. Just use common sense when you keep things outside and in plain view.

Some padlocks can be popped open quite easily with almost no noise. Even some supposedly more secure ones can be bypassed. Bolt cutters make a bit of noise, but in a more populated area like Q, it may not be noticeable. YouTube has a lot of stuff on this.

When I chain something down, I use something like a Kryptonite KryptoLok, an Evolution 4, a NY Legend chain, or a security chain and an Abus padlock. All of these are key retaining, so the key has to be turned to pull back anything locking, all have decent pick resistance, and all have a good reputation when being smashed apart on YouTube. Of course, nothing is 100% secure, but that is why I have insurance.
