We received a membership with a new trailer purchase and are considering another year. I am considering the purchase of an existing membership. Any info would be helpful. Thanks, Jeff

We are in the second year of a thousand Trails camping pass. We liked it and we have been full time for 15 years now. In fact we are looking for a used TT membership instead of keeping the annual camping pass.

Look at the number of nights you plan to be in TT campgrounds.

Divide by costs per year. Used memberships are a bit tricky to figure, so add at least 10% to what the current annual membership rate is. Still cheaper than new memberships bought from TT overall though. Unless you want some benefits in a new TT membership not available in a used one.

But you can always upgrade later.

I also recommend you make any decision to cancel at least 90 days prior to the annual renewal date, and send a registered letter to TT with notice of cancellation or decline of an addon like Trails Connection.

There is no doubt you can find better campgrounds, if you are willing/ able to pay the costs.

TT seldom works for traveling unless you carefully plan your stops and mileages between. Working reservations takes practice, a couple years to learn the tricks.

We plan first to use PA for traveling, then others.

The absolute BEST discounts are federal campgrounds with a lifetime senior pass, if you are 62 or older. And there are federal campgrounds available where you want to stay with the facilities/ amenities you want.

We are happy TT members with a used membership and Trails Connection. And we are full-timers, with TT/TC campgrounds close to children/ grandchildren. In Florida, north Texas, Oregon and Arizona.

But we also know some of the disappointing things about the system, still as full-timers, it is great for us.

Our way of thinking is there is so many campgrounds in the U.S. of A and Canada-it just isn't worth the $$'s to restrict yourselves to that style of camping. We do belong to Good Sam, KOA and Passport America. Where ever we go there always seems to be one or the other to stay with. We have camped from So. Ca. to B.C. and Yukon Terr.-to Florida and many points in between.

If you use it a lot, are happy with their restrictions and limitations, and are happy with the campgrounds you stay in, then may be worth it. We were not happy so we dropped our 4 year membership.....which Thousand Trails did not make easy. A written notice sent at least 30 days in advance of cancelling membership is required.
