We are headed to Valley of Fire state park next week from the Phoenix area. I was wondering which entrance was best for an RV, West off 75 or East? Also any current info or tips would be appreciated.

Even if you can't find a spot, you can drive on out the Overton side and find lots of good boondocking.

Was there in late Dec. stayed in both campgrounds. Dusting of snow in places and sub freezing nights. Arch Rock never filled-as said it is the tighter, no hookup, and less big rig friendly of the campgrounds. But IMO it is the most scenic where I had my own rock "cove." My friend got his 35' bus in one of the sites and had his own cove. Didn't get much solar generation from low angle sun and the rock's shade. Atlatl has power and water as I recall. Arrive early for best chance and choice of first come first served sites. Dump station near campgrounds. We had a good stay and enjoyed it.

I was able to get useful (if cranky) VZ data in both campgrounds with the weboost (clear cut example of the booster being useful). Without it nothing or occasional 1X text. Some of the hiking areas had better service. ATT no better.

Just left there last weekend and of course that was NASCAR weekend. There wasn't a spot left. But that park is awesome.

There are two campgrounds. Atlatl Campground has showers, modern restrooms and large sites, some with water and electric. Usually not a problem mid-week, but not uncommon to fill on weekends. We have been there twice when the "campground full" sign was out at the campground entrance road, but there were open sites. So drive in and check it out. The ranger station is quite a ways away, so keeping current with the sign is not at the top of their list.

The other campground (Arch Rock) is older and more primitive, no hook-ups, smaller sites that can be tight for big rigs. Usually doesn't fill.

This park is a spectacular place. Do not miss it if you have the chance.

Safe travels.

Valley of Fire is on my list of Top Ten state parks I want to visit, too. I'm just nervous about the first-come-first-serve policy there. What has been your experience with availability? I imagine you should be fine next week, especially if your visit starts on a weekday. Would I just be out of luck if all the sites are full?

Both are fine. When you enter from the W., there's a bit of a hill, but it's not bad. Coming around the other way will put you on some dirt roads but is flat.
