Western/central Iowa

We have a fifth wheel and will be in the western and central parts of Iowa within the next couple days. Is there any special places to stay including state parks, national parks Etc that you'd recommend?

Also ...Any special places or things to see and explore in Iowa or some great things to do.

A very nice campground in central iowa is Little Wall Lake.

If you are going to be near to Waterloo, IA stop and tour the John Deere factories.

In addition to state parks, Iowa has LOTS of county and city parks. We really enjoy those types of campgrounds and have found The Ultimate Public Campground Project to be the best source for finding them.

There are the covered bridges featured in "The Bridges of Madison County" near Winterset where John Wayne's Birthplace Museum is located. Winterset also has a nice City Park Campground. Maybe to far East, but there is the birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk and a Star Trek Museum in Riverside.

Herbert Hoover's presidential library and John Wayne's birthplace. Both are great places to visit.

A great spot to camp near Des Moines sites is Jester Park, Granger, IA

Ledges State Park the and nearby Boone RR is fun in West Central IA. Adventureland and Living History Farms in Des Moines, and the state fair in Aug. All of the IA state parks are very nice! Walnut if you like antiques. And the Amanas if you make it to Eastern IA, for a trip back in time. Okoboji (IA Great Lakes) in NW IA is the party/boating capital.
