Good Afternoon All, Just made reservations for WestMoreland State Park for Easter Wknd. Looking for feedback any favorite sites (we have a Rockwood Roo with 2 super slides hoping to have a site fairly close to the water area but open to suggestions. Any places you recommend visiting in the area or good trails at the park for us and our dog to hike? Thanks so much, looking forward to trying a new park out! Sue :B

Thanks all! I made the reservation and it would not allow me to select a particular site so guessing it doesn't apply to WestMoreland as of yet. I think we might take a ride there, only about 2 hours away and scope the place out and see first hand what the sites are like. Yeah the whole map thing can be deceiving. Sue

The new Powhatan State Park has 15 site specific and 14 first come, first served sites. There are a few of the site specific ones there that I just wouldn't want.

We rode to Holiday Lake State Park in Appomattox, VA. last weekend to check out the campgrounds. Both sections were blocked off, but I could read a sign posted at the Red Oak loop. The sign read, beginning in March 2017, reservations would be site specific.

This year, VA state parks are going to use site-specific sites in a few of their parks as a trial run. Next year, most all parks will be site-specific. I don't know if Westmoreland is one that will be trying it this year, but I know most of them that are will be in the easter/northern areas.

The big run on camp sites is Friday and Saturday.. Sunday is like a ghost yard at all the sites haha...

We usually have great luck going on Thursday for the weekends and of course Sundays and Mondays you can pick any site you want haha... Our two favorite sites in the B Section is just below the Bath house. There is three electric sites there before turning into all non-electric tent type camping sites... I'm thinking B49 is the number but when I look on-line I don't see any sites below the bath room building listed. Something may have changed for this year there... We didn't go to Westmoreland last year...

We see alot of MD tags at Westmoreland...

We usually check-in at the main gate but now that the Vistor Center is going full force you may have to drive to it to check-in... We would always go setup and walk down to the check-in place if we didn't check-in at the gate. It may have changed now that the Vistor Center is all opened up...

I have camped many of times on the B non-electric sites that go West of the bath house. Nice and peaceful at the end of that loop...

I'm not much help for you here haha...

If you are not too far away in MD drive down on the weekend and look around...

Thanks so much Roy Ken! I know VA parks do not allow you to reserve a particular site so Im thinking we will ride around there on Thursday afternoon find one and park there while I go sign in. Do you think that would work out ok? We have always done that at Kiptopeke State Park on VA Eastern Shore. Thanks again for your helpful info! Sue

One of our favorite camp sites... Of course just living some 25 miles away from it helps haha...

I don't think none of the designated camp grounds are within short walking distance to the beach area... You have to go down a steep hill to get to the beaches... There is a large parking lot there next to the beach...

We camp at B camp ground which is mix of Electric sites and non electric sites. Mixes the Tent camping into the RV Trailers... These are mostly back in sites with a few pull throughs... The A site is along a ridge so to speak up above the Potomac River area and most of these are pull through sites. Mostly the large Class As camp here...

They have a new Visitor Center now which I have never been in yet... Probably has alot of things in it to look at now...

Site folks are very friendly and there is a camp store down by the beach area. Has a real nice pool area which is free to use for campers...

We like to go set around the couple of peers out on the water in the early evening time. They also have a boat launch area...

Lots of trails and lots of wildlife walking through the area at dusk... Kids love riding their bicyles around the trails around B site at dusk and early evening. You can see their bicycle lights going up and down the trail and the kids are having a great time..

Each camp zone has a nice bath room area with shower... Each camp zone has firewood available as well... Pay on the honor system

Just outside the main gate is a nice country store for supplies...

I go down there all the time with my OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer to test out some of my back in the woods mods I am always doing...

HDTV and Cell phone service is good in the area...

One of the things that hikers like to do is go along the water line and look for shark teeth... I love the evenings when all the deer start coming around. Lots of squirrels too...

Go to their web page and look up the camp grounds maps etc...
