Have Reservation at Whisper Creek RV Resort in Labelle, Florida for Nov 2013 to March 30 2014, just curious, has anyone stayed at this RV park, if so pros and cons would be appreciated, sounded nice last Feb., 2013 at the Chicago/Rosemont RV show, so we made reservation and will be our first fulltime winter away from the Chicago area, thanks to all who respond, Wolf3gang.

Thanks for the list. I missed when you first posted it. Very helpful.

Several years ago we stayed a month in LaBelle with friends who had recommended the small park where they stayed every winter. There are things to do in the area but you will have to look for them. We spent Saturday mornings at the Hispanic market in one of the parks. We purchased our veggies and fruits there.

On Friday nights we went to the VFW for a fish fry. In February there is a Swamp Cabbage Festival in downtown.

My husband was starting his woodcarving hobby and he carved with 2 other men.

The Ortona Fire Department has a great barbecue-bring your own chairs.

Mostly you will need to entertain yourself. Some prefer that but we don't. We don't need a lot of activities but we do like to get with others occasionally.

As a former resident of Labelle, I can state from experience that the area is rural. If you are the type of campers the need to be entertained, this is not for you.

If not, you will not find any nicer folks running a campground. It is family owned, and more importantly, family operated.

As to the naysayers, if it was so bad it would not survived and doubled in size that past 30 years. Perhaps it just not the type of camping YOU wanted, I can respect that, but many folks love it and return year after year.

I am not associated with Whisper Creek in any way, although I was one of their vendors years ago and got to know the family and the campground well.

LOL... I get a lil bit tickled about the significance of beach access to snowbirds during the winter. Having lived in northern climes a few years, I do understand. But, you won't find many "Conchs" or transplanted residents swimming in Key West during January. When I was in high school, we'd get a chuckle out of all the "ghosts"; male, female, young and old, with their little hats, sun glasses, and globs of sun screen under their eyes and covering their noses; dressed in madras Bermuda shorts, T's, and flip-flops, ridin' on the "Conch Train" in 68ยฐ temps. Looked like a 55' halo with shades of a rainbow coming down Whitehead St. Still makes me smile.:)

30 miles as the crow flies maybe. We traveled hwy 80 so many times just to see some sights that I could drive it in my sleep. LaBelle has nothing to offer a visitor unless sitting around the RV all day is someone's idea of a vacation. Even a Walmart is a half hour drive away!!!
But, to each their own.
Per Google maps 29.8 miles

I think I would line up with the naysayers on this one. While some parks are in locations like this, they do not appeal to most "people" persons. The activities are more likely to be ones in which you participate alone (hiking, biking birdwatching, etc.), with your spouse, or in small card table groups. In addition to long commutes to the many things to do in Fort Myers and more southerly locations like Naples, your options are limited.

In a park like IBE, for example, you have more than 80 different activities. You can still do the solitary stuff, but at least here you have options; AND you're very close to the beach! Not so out in the boonies.

This might be a very long 4-5 months for this poster. My advise would be to pick a park somewhere between Fort Myers and Naples for one month and explore the area. Visit the people in the various parks as well as the park's amenities, for it will be the people that ultimately make your stay the one you are seeking. Who knows? that just might be the park you've chosen, but I doubt it.

For a list of Fort Myers area parks, visit my 12/24/2012 entry on page 3 of my posts. And, stop by our place in IBE some Sunday for a rousing game of Bean Bag Baseball!

I've never stayed there, but I've been there. On a motorcycle ride. Labelle was about far enough. Like Bill B. it seemed desolate. And I prefer the rural/natural settings. But it's just out there in the middle of vast farm fields.
Everything in Florida is measured in "How far to the beach". I'd get something closer to the ocean. AND I would lay eyes on a park before I made an extended reservation. There's enough parks that keep spaces open for "overnighters" that you don't really need a reservation. Though by Nov. the prime spots are taken.
If you have to make reservations, Imperial Bonita Estates is $500/mo. until Jan. 1st. And Indian Creek usually has a fall special for $189/mo. for the first month. That'll give you time to look around.

We stayed there for a month three years ago. NEVER AGAIN.
You are out in the boon docks- Nothing of interest for miles and miles around. Rent then was $850 a month. We were mixed in with permanent house trailers. One morning I killed a rattlesnake that was under my pick up truck. Be careful walking around at night.
Very clean- paved roads- some sites paved. People were friendly. There's a bunch of French Canadians(friendly people) there.

When you drive North out of LaBelle just after the bridge the cops sit waiting for speeders so be careful.
We go to Florida for the warmth but we also like some entertaining things to do and there's nothing around LaBelle.
Happy trails,

I have not been there but good reviews on rvparkreviews.com; we have been to Pioneer Creek in Bowling Green the past 3 winters.
