Winnemucca overnight

Just returned from a round trip from Sacramento to N. Central Montana. On my way east, I did an overnight in Water Canyon, which is a free boonddocking BLM site about 5 miles south of Winnemucca (thanks to Nevadanick for checking it out for me). Water canyon is somewhat remote on a gravel road. I pulled in late after dark. It made site judgement and turnarounds a bit challenging since it had rained and areas off the gravel road were soft. On my way home, I stopped off at the New Frontier RV park on the east side of Winnemucca. What a nice experience. First, with the good Sam discount, the fee was a whooping $19 with full hookups and a zillion cable channels. The park is new, clean, and the showers and rest room areas were immaculate. Most sites are pull thru so I didn't have to unhook the toad. A local full timer greeted me and was interested in the critters I was feeding. He (mike) offered to take me into town for dinner so I didn't have to wait for the casino shuttle. We hit the Winners casino and had an excellent prime rib dinner for $13. I enjoyed the conversation and learning about this man, and his navy seal son's service to our country. Overall, this was the best overnight I've had, and beats the heck out of a Walmart when on the road. Thanks again Mike, for an enjoyable evening and your families service to our country.

We used to stay in the Model T RV park, but the last 2 times we just went to the truck/RV dry parking behind the Model T Casino and dry camped. They still provided us with a shuttle to the Basque restaurant and back.

They were open, but my local host suggested Winners.

Good to know. We usually stay out at Rye Patch reservoir, but it is quite a bit past town to the west. We did spend one night at the WalMart in Winnemucca one time. There was not a level spot in the entire parking lot, but it was the only thing available that night. They must get gully washers in there and need the drainage, I guess.
