To answer your question, yes, Fishing Bridge is a fine place to stay in August. Yes, it's like a paved lot and the spaces are close together, but it has full hookups and is centrally located in the park.

The campgrounds like Grizzly RV Park and the West Yellowstone KOA are superior in amenities and quality of stay, but driving in and out of Yellowstone to the campground can easily add an hour or more each way to get to the major attractions.

We have stayed both in and out of the park. We prefer staying inside, and Madison campground is a beautiful non-hookup campground centrally located and Fishing Bridge is a good choice for full hookups, pay showers & laundry mat. The draw to Yellowstone is the park, so the campground experience is usually limited to eating dinner and sleeping.

Enjoy Yellowstone!

We stayed at Bridge Bay, dry camping not too far from Fishing Bridge. We were able to take showers near Fishing Bridge (pay showers); for our upcoming trip, we are staying at Canyon (2 showers per day included in their rate). We didn't miss the hook-ups as we were out touring almost all day; used generator during allowed hours when needed, and used the dump station once during our 7 day trip (you can really conserve water if you want to!). There is nothing better than waking up and realizing you are right in Yellowstone! Stay in the park; make your reservations now.

Just stayed at Fishing Bridge for Mother's Day. It is a parking spot. No picinic tables or fire rings but full hookups (except it was getting to 20 degrees that night so they shot the water off). It looks centerally located but our family does not enjoy the lake side of the park. We prefer the upper loop. Madison Campground is nice, but no hookups. Each campground has a ranger talk at 9PM each night and typically has fun information and education for kids and adults. August will be crowded. We typically will camp in the park before schools get out in May and after school starts in September. Being that we live in Bozeman, we will do afternoon trips during the summer. Best of luck and enjoy the park!

Fishing Bridge is the only campground in the park with hookups. But many people don't like it because it's like a big parking lot. Of course you will mostly be sleeping there so if you need hookups, that's the only game in the park. We stayed at Madison. No hookups but you can run your generator during certain hours. It was pretty centrally located. In August there are many choices. We we there in May and only 4 campgrounds were open.If you don't already have reservations for August, you will be lucky to get a site for several days. And the park will be packed. It will take longer to get any where. In May,we had no traffic jams and crowds were light.Yellowstone is huge. We were there 4 days and could have used 2 more.

Stay at Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone and enjoy your time in Yellowstone NP.
