A couple of mods to our 2004 Terra 31H

We have had this MH for 5 months and after 5 weekends and 2 trips we realized that what we thought we needed and what we actually needed were two very different things. 1st to change was the large old tube TV mounted in the dash. as some of you may know The 2004 Fleetwood Terra has a cut out in the dash and the TV was mounted there.

With a 2x8 held next to the remaining part of the dash, I was able to scribe the profile of the dash face and make a insert that would fit the space. I wanted it to hold the back up camera screen and relocate the radio controls to where the DW could reach it. DW suggested that a shallow tray would be handy so that is what the top became. The "hood" that went over the tv was reinstalled to keep the sun from beating down on the things we throw in there like phones or cameras. The black tray thing that the tv sat on we kept because the atlas fits perfectly slid in there.

Then i stained the wood.

I thought for a first try it turned out nice. We're ordering a pocket insert to install where the radio was originally mounted.

The second modification we made was installing some drawers under the couch.

I built a frame that would hold 2 drawers.

As it turned out the drawers are 28in w x 20in l and 7in deep. This still gave room for the heat duct to run behind the drawers. Right now the heat duct is just laying behind the couch until I figure out where to install it.

I reused the kick plate under the couch for the front of the frame for the drawers. i cut out the openings removing the fabric, foam and board and then reinstalled the kick plate leaving the openings for the drawers.

After installing the frame and making sure everything fit, I installed the drawer fronts. and screwed the frame down. We still need to pick up some drawer pulls and stays before we take it on the road.

.

Still have not fully figured out where to install the new TV but right now it looks like t will go on the cabinet over the cockpit. or on the wall behind the dinette. We have also replaced the shower bi-fold door with a Extend-A-Shower Expanding Shower Rod.

Nice work! If it were me, I would use drawer latches/pulls like this. You push them in to lock the drawer, and then you don't catch things (ankles) on them because they are flush to the drawer. Push again and they pop out and are used as pulls. I did my door to my solar equipment that way since it is in the entryway next to the steps - didn't want things catching and liked the locking functionality.

That was a great idea for the dash.

Now i have to modify my couch so i can at least access under it from inside my trailer.

gbopp, i used a clear pine 2 x 8 for the face and a 1 x 6 for the rest. When i started the project i was going to do it in fiberglass, but as time was short(heading out for a family reunion) i settled for the pine. still may do the fiberglass this winter when i cannot ride my bike or go camping.

Awesome job! Did you take any pics while removing the TV?
Maybe I can do something similar on our Southwind.
What kind of wood did you use on the dash?
