LED step light?

The supposed waterproofed ip67 led bar I had behind my steps has failed to the point where it doesn't provide useful light anymore. Almost all the LEDs have burned or shorted out.

I thought this one would last. Aluminum frame infilled with silicone epoxy. Plus it cost $50.

So what I want to try is getting an aluminum C extrusion, gluing a high quality LED strip or three in there and then filling it with a marine grade epoxy like something from totalboat or west systems.

Any thoughts?

If I could find a heavy duty "deck" or "courtesy" light with 3000-3500k LEDs I'd give it a try, but everything is built using those awful 6000k blue white LEDs.

A lot of LEDs are just plain junk. I've thrown away my fair share.

The ones I'm currently using on our motorhome steps are sold by M4. I found them through the RVGeeks YouTube channel.

Here's how I've set them up.



I have one more to install on the outside of the coach, just above the electric steps. It should illuminate all three nicely.

I usually bury the cut end, and the soldered end, with glue from a hot glue gun. This waterproofs them very effectively.

A couple of $5 licence plate lights, one each side of the steps. Their designed to be out in the weather.

The color is wrong... although I could go with incandescent... thanks for the tip, I will check into it!

Just like with any LED’s they are available in a wide range of colour temperatures, the ones I used are a very warm colour, nearly yellowish.
