Hi folks,

Was gifted a 1966 Sprite caravan from my inlaws and am in the process of stripping it down.
Have most of the interior wallboards removed and will be repairing the rot as required....so far not too bad for such an old girl with full tin shell.

Am planning on outfitting it with some modern parts.

Looking for:

4-5 cubic foot fridge
30A converter
hot water tank
furnace
toilet
water pump
sink
15gal black and grey tanks
15 gal water tank

I've tried pricing things out, but haven't been able to find one place to get everything. Not sure if it's even possible, but if there are places out there that are under my nose I would like to be able to give them my list and get a bundle price.

Cheers,...better get back out to the old girl and continue the process.

Yes, been thinking of getting a Nexus card.....usually thinking about it when I'm in the long line at the truck crossing... ๐Ÿ™‚

Will check out Ted's for sure. I have a request into GetAway for most of the bigger items. We bought our first trailer from them and always liked their approach to things. We stopped in there after the Snowbird show and chatted about our project and he seemed pretty keen.

Almost have her completely gutted, so will start replacing some of the worse looking "studs". Man, these things are sure built with a minimalist approach...lol

Except for what the exchange has been doing to us lately, the cheapest source for those parts will from online vendors in the US. If you haven't got one, get a US mailbox in Blaine and get items shipped there and go pick them up. Shipping items into Canada is so expensive. Avoid buying at local dealers unless you have cash to burn.

A couple more online sources are Tweetys.com and MakariosRV.com. Be wary of Amazon and ebay for warranties, returns and problems like say a missing part. I wouldn't buy things like furnace, fridge or water heater there.

I doubt bundling will get you the best pricing. If you have a part number and/or item description, spend some time googling to find the lowest shipping + item cost. Can save a ton of money, especially on big ticket items like fridge, furnace and water heater.

For a local parts source, try Ted's RV in Langley on 208th near 40th ave. Very knowledgeable and helpful owner and he can get you some hard to find items. Maybe there is someone closer to you on your side of the river?

If you plan to camp in the US much, now would be a good time to get Nexus cards so you can pick things up quickly at a US mailbox.

I found they had a great price on awning rafter that I needed and spent even more on some other stuff I needed. Prices we better on lots of stuff, little more on some but over all I felt it was a wash. Flat $8.50 shipping per order.

Hey there,

Thanks for the links.
Yes, cost will be looked at for sure.
I have a US address that I get things shipped to, so I just have to hop across the border and pick things up.

Looks like we will be in the $3-4000 range to get it up to snuff using new parts (rough orders of parts have us at between 2-2500CAN).

With 3 grown sons we were thinking that this could be a cool unit for them to be able to use until they get on their feet....not to mention I have some pretty cheap labour available ๐Ÿ™‚ We will use it for a couple years until we get ourselves our pre-retirement trailer....much better than tenting.

That said, I still haven't got it completely stripped down, so if I find any showstoppers in that process it might all be off.

Mike,

I know of no single supplier that can get you all of those. You might best try to find an RV salvage company in western Canada.

DW has family in Canada, and unless you have a US friend that will manage things, the combination of the duty and the dollar values will beat you up.

I wish you luck in the endeavor.
