Sewer Hose Storage

When we got our Bighorn, it came with what is called a sewer boom. The concept was good in that it contained the sewer hose while it was connected semi-permanently, and when you needed to dump your tanks, you simply swung it out. Problem was that you could not attach a clear short section for monitoring the emptying of your tank. So, we removed the whole thing. Then we were faced with how/where to store the hose. We kept it in a clear storage bin and that worked for awhile but it took up extra space in the storage bay. Fast forward and DH installed a storage compartment for the hose. He mounted in on the side, using black PVC piping that he drilled holes in top and bottom for air circulation and drainage. He fastened a screwed on lid on both ends, with the end closest the drain valve angled for easy removal and additional drainage. Each end cap is attached with a short chain should it come either undone by itself, we won't lose it or forget that we removed it when using it hence leaving it behind somewhere. From the angle of the photos it looks lower than the frame but in fact it isn't and is higher than the lowest point of the drain valve. It looks really sharp.

Very nice work. I mounted mine across underneath cross ways, never even thought about doing it that way. Neat idea.
The bungee cord is only temporary until I can get my straps made.
I still have a 6" PVC pipe like the one you have, but I am going to mount it across underneath as well due to needing a place to put my awning poles. Love the way you put the cap chains on there. Going to use that on mine!

I was just wondering if you have found the need to provide some sort of drainage hole or opening in your storage tube.

4" ABS pipe is what it is. I got this from Home Depot including the screw caps. Didn't do anything to the caps to make them screw on and off easily, they do that already.

What diameter PVC did you use and did you do anything to the caps to make them easier to screw on and off?

where did you get the 5x5 fence post? I have a 4"pvc pipe but I have to remove the fittings on my rhino hose before storing it.

I got the 5x5 Vinyl post from Home Depot and the gutter from Lowe's(HD does not have symmetrical gutters, their's are offset and can't be used). Both had the 1" square tubing and I got the 8" long bolts to hang it with from Ace Hardware.
Here is the link with the item number for the HD post 5x5 Vinyl Fence Post

@Lantley, where did you get the bracket to hold up the 6 inch pipe and did you attach it to the frame? I (DH) considered placing a longer one on the trailer across the width and storing additional items there, but ran into two concerns - 1) theft of anything valuable (hate those guys) not too many ways to lock it, but I'm sure a hasp and a padlock could be installed, and 2) keeping it in place hence the question on the bracket. Just curiosity at this point since I have mine on the trailer now. Definitely is nice having more room to put stuff in and the advantages of not having to break the sewer stuff apart could be very useful.

@Cummings12V98 you are correct, it is ABS, Renee says 'Sorry, she mis-stated PVC on original post'

No problem just wanted to make sure someones wife (or husband) did not go to the store and ask for one product and get the other. Glad you did not take offense!

ReneeG,

Great minds think alike. This was my first idea then I found some PVC J-hooks for the 4" dia PVC.

J-Hooks - I used 2 at each location and PVC-glued them together to form a U.

Ended up with this:

It is a 2 hole galvanized bracket for 6" PVC pipe available at any plumbing wholesaler. The bracket is specifically sized to fit 6" PVC pipe. It is made in other pipe sizes as well.
The bracket is attached to the outside frame using self taping screws.
The steel is softer than I thought.....go figure LOL.. Getting the self taping screw to go through the steel was not hard at all!
As I mentioned earlier it was simple enough to put together and attach that I made an 2nd 6" tube up to carry my fishing rods, which were always a transporting nuisance.
6" PVC pipe can be expensive, hopefully the wholesaler will not charge you straight retail prices.
The good thing about the tube is it is very durable. I used the same tube on my prior TT. I just re-sized it to fit my current 5'er.
Lastly security of the tube is not a big issue with me. I store my RV at home. However you could easily drill a hole in the screw on lid and add a padlock if you like.
