5th wheel head

I am new at this and have a question. How do you determine the height of the wheel head ? How do you decide which one of the various levels on its base?

Agree with hitching up first and seeing what you got, then go from there with measuring.

Don't change anything - (yet).

Hitch up - see how it sits (level?) - and if you have the necessary clearance?

Then go from there..:D

The Hitch Head, and pin box on the 5er should be adjusted to give at least 6" of clearance to the bed rails, and have the 5er sit as level as possible.

This is what I was asking for, thanks.

I don't get this either...especially the last sentence.

X-2 on the good advice.

And - maybe "we" don't understand the question..:@

The hitch:

Some hitches have a removable "head" - ex: PR SG.
The "head" is on top of the hitch. Some are removable.
(don't know about all the brands, but usually there is *NO* adjustment for the *head* height).

Some hitch mfgrs provide height adjustment for the entire hitch as it sits in the bed.

~

The trailer pin box:

The pin box -on your trlr- usually has height adjustments, and also
usually there are three positions.

****If you wish to change the pin box height yourself - keep in mind the pin box is *HEAVY* - support accordingly!.;)

Depending on your truck's bed height - the adjustments *may* leave your trailer in an unacceptable nose high attitude..:(

Then it's time for *trlr* height adjustment - and another (lengthy) topic.

X2 on the six inches of bed rail clearance. I try to shoot for 7-8 inches if possible. But as mentioned by rhagfo, you want the FW to be sitting as level as can be.

Yeah, me too. ๐Ÿ™‚

Are you referring to the 5th wheel hitch? And various mounting holes?

I would love to give you my opinion, but it would be a guess, since I have no clue what you're asking.
