We recently got into this 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500hd in which had this already installed to it, see attached pics. While I am a Truck driver I am still learning about RVs n open to learning new things to do it right. Can we add a fifth wheel hitch to the current set up on my pick up trk. The person whom had it before had it registered as a commercial trk n why it has the current set up.

Hello,
Apparently this forum is somewhat dead at this time. It appears that you have a B&W turn over gooseneck hitch installed on the truck. I have the same. As the others were stating, avoid a gooseneck conversion kit for the fifth wheel camper itself. The two best options you have are the B&W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch, or the Andersen Ultimate Hitch. Both will attach to the gooseneck ball you have. I have an older Andersen steel hitch, and have had no problems with it. The most important thing you will have to consider is the pin weight of the fifth wheel you are considering. You have a 2021 2500 Silverado. Check the payload sticker in the drivers side door sill. It will tell you the cargo capacity you have. This will determine how much total weight you can carry/pull.

yes you can still mount a 5th wheel hitch in the bed. I wouldn't use any goose neck adaptors they put a lot of stress on the 5th wheel frame. depending on the truck there may be a couple options, the first being a traditional 5th wheel hitch which is mounted to the frame via holes through the bed. the second is a factory puck system where they would lift the bed and mount a sub frame then drill the access for the puck mounts in the bed. I did this with my ford and it is the best set up as when your hitch is out your bed is fully functional and you don't have the rails left in there to work around.

Sorry Stircrazy, yes the puck system would be preferable. I was suggesting what would work economically with their existing set up.

ya I think by the time you buy the goosneck adapter, for example the curt setup is 900 bucks, the subframe to give the puck system will be a small fraction of that. for example for me to buy the subframe from ford for my truck and have them put it in cost me about 400 cdn. but for simple ease, an adapter plate and then you can use any 5th wheel hitch is the easiest.

That's a gooseneck ball.
- There adapters you can put on your trailer pin but be careful, they change the forces on the trailer frame and many manufacturers will invalidate the warranty because they can damage the frame.
- I believe there is an actual 5th wheel hitch that attaches to a gooseneck ball but I've never dealt with them.
- A standard 5th wheel hitch either adds rails or some of the newer trucks get 4 pucks that the hitch attaches to.
