Andersen Hitch

I decided to get rid of my Companion slider, because I can't use it with my camper. Thinking real hard about going with the Andersen Hitch. I have heard nothing but good stuff about them, so I looking for any issues that people have had. My truck is a short bed and my camper has an extended pin box to I think I going to put the adapter the other way right? I just want to make sure I am making the right choice.

I don't have an Anderson Hitch.

I am in a quandary about the "difficulty" of raising the trailer a few inches while connecting and disconnecting.
When I take my genny with us it sits on the back of the truck and my DW raises and lowers the rig while I back-up as necessary.
So far she hasn't had to go to physio-therapy for her index finger because of extend landing gear switch usage. And my little 2' step ladder would give me enough of a boost to be able to do the chains.

Looks like a fairly decent setup to me.

🙂
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

Nice safety chains! Most of the time people use ones that wouldn't hold back a good size dog.

Thanks they are heavy duty, they come with the safety chain kit from Andersen.

I used it yesterday. Towed the camper to campground an hour and half away and everything work flawlessly.

Got the hitch yesterday, hook up took alittle longer as I put the adapter infront of the king pin. After I got hooked up I had to put the adapter behind the king pin. All of this took maybe 45 mintues. The hitch part took all of 5 mintues. I am a true belivier and this system, who cares if I need to jump in the bed to attach two chains.

now that you have made that adjustment (adapter behind), you won't have to do that again. right?

Right, for the people out there thinking about using this hitch put it on do not install the lock until you are sure the direction you need to put the adapter. I have two nice little holes on one side when I first installed everything.

I'm using the Andersen with our Mobile Suites. Love it.

Hitching up to the ball is not an issue at all. Very simple. The only posts I've seen about how difficult it is is from people who don't have the hitch.

You have to raise the trailer a few inches higher to hook/unhook than you would with a traditional hitch. Not difficult.

If one is troubled by the safety chain issue...get them. Andersen offers a kit. I have it. Again, some are making a bigger deal out of this than is necessary.

If I felt there were any negatives with this hitch I would share them. I would never advise someone to get something just because it's what I'm using. If I didn't trust this hitch I would toss it and get something different. At this point, I have no desire to go back to a traditional 5th wheel hitch.

We share a fifth wheel with my brother-in-law and have a companion slider. We like the hitch, but it's a real pain installing it into our truck b/c of the weight if someone isn't there. We are looking at the Ranch Hitch Adapter with the 8" offset for our trailer. Plus with with this style hitch I can get a 45 gal toolbox fuel tank combo.

Going with the Andersen, the weight outweighs all the negatives and I'm get the safety chain kit also.
