Anybody use the Curt Ram factory prep 5th wheel hitch?

So the B&W is severely back ordered. The Andersen Ultimate is still peaking my interest. Also looking at the Curt, which just came out with the legs for pucks on the Ram factory prep, either the Q20 or Q24 Head will work on this. They offer a 10 year limited warranty, slightly cheaper then the B$W.

I have no experience with Curt products,

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you Craig for your feedback. Vietvet 66, we will continue to work on this until it works as it should. No offense taken as we can all use help/suggestions now and again.
We have the Big Foot Leveling system on our Carriage and it is supposed to bring the 5th wheel back up to the hitch height it had when we unhooked each time. I'm not sure if this will affect your way of getting the hitch to lock but we are certainly going to try any and all suggestions.
It was just such a shocker to all of a sudden not have an easy one time back in to have the hitch close on the 1st try. We won't be moving til Monday but I will keep y'all posted on how we make out. Thanks to both of you again. Hugs, Di

Dutch, don't know if this is how you do it, but this works for me.
Been using a Curt q20 for two years now with no problems at all.
I just let the nose down till the plate above the pin is sitting on
the back edge of the hitch "shoe" so that when I back up the weight of
5er is being put on the hitch. No problem with the hitch closing.
I do on occasion have to move forward a 1/4' or so till it click's in.
Hope this helps you and in no way am I saying you are doing anything
wrong, only what has worked for me. No offence intended.

We replaced a Reese with a Curt Q24 two years ago. Really thought it much faster too hook up than the Reese. DH didn't have to get out and shine a light up to see if the jaws were locked, because the Curt has a color bar to show it.

When we traded in our 2010 for a 2014 with the Hitch Pkg, but no hitch, Ford dealer couldn't get an adapter rated any more than 20k to go with underbed rails. But it worked out okay, dealer took the Curt in trade and gave us a new 25k Reese hitch no charge. Haven't used it yet, but hope it's as easy to use as the Curt.

I have the B&W companion for my 2014 Ram 3500 DRW. My hitch dealer could not get one for four months, but was able to buy the base and head separately as spare parts, and had them there the next day. Paid the best $30 extra freight charge ever for this service. Not familiar with the Curt, but I would highly recommend the B&W.

Whether spare parts are readily available or I was just lucky, I don't know. Good luck.

I have the curt Q20, find it a very well built hitch and easy to maintain. To me its a great hitch and the one to get.

To shed some light onto the post by dutch. I have found for the jaws of the hitch to fully close and lock, the height of the king pin has to be right on. Yes this may require getting out to raise or lower the unit so the king pin will be at the correct height. To me although sometimes a pain I feel better knowing that it takes more perfect match to lock.

The Curt Hitch is a good hitch. Our only downside is the amount of time it takes to get it to "click in" when hooking up. We are not novices and have RV'd fulltime for 18 years and are still in the same RV so that isn't the issue. We had a 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually and it was a breeze with our Reese hitch either hooking up or un hooking.
When we picked up our 2014 Ram 3500 Dually, Reese didn't have a hitch that would work with the 2014's. This was back in October of 2013. Our only alternative was to get the Curt, so we could be on our way.
We have calls into Curt as this just can't be normal. Will keep you posted when we receive and answer and hopefully a solution. Hugs, Di

The Curt q20 is an excellent robust hitch. The B&W is a fine hitch... But so are the Curts.

I would get the Ram picture frame adaptor and a Curt and not look back.

Compare side by side to the B&W. It will be worth the wait.
