After actually pulling my hub off, inspecting, adjusting the bearings and pumping in the grease I have to say I completely disagree!

I felt virtually no resistance difference while pumping the handle when the cavity started to fill.

Do it whichever way you want too, it's your trailer, but on my trailers EZ lubes aren't a maintenance replacement for disassembling & inspection of bearings, races, spindles, brakes, magnets and other hub
components.

If that cavity is totally full of grease, what happens when the brakes heat up the drum/hub and the grease expands. Where does the grease go?
The picture shown appears to be from an axle without brakes! On an axle like this Easy Lube is the only way to go! Just pump till your hearts content and let the grease ooze onto the wheel rim. If you have brakes on a trailer then the cleanliness of those brake shoes and magnet is of upmost importance.

If you did not understand I pulled the hub, that requires the silver cap to be removed. I did all the greasing with the cap off and then removed the excess grease before replacing the cap.

It is unbelievable that this went from finding the GREASE to bashing EZ Lube Axles. If anyone cares I did find that Lucas Red and Tacky is OK. That what I started this thread about GREASE!

Well, ya have to get everybodies opionion about the weather, current affairs and politics 1st.

We have covered which grease gun to use, where to put it, who doesnt like the system and 5 different methods of bearing maintenance.

In the end you answered your own question. Which I was going to help you with last night but the thread got ao derailed I just popped some popcorn , opened a beer and sat back for the entertainment. Sorry for that bit it was like a train wreck.

I know what you mean sometimes you just never know where these things are going, but I have resolved my issue and will be buying Lucas red and tacky at Autozone by my house and will use a grease gun per Dexter

The manufacturer of the product or a google many times beats asking a straight forward question on website forums such as rv.net where many replies don't answer the OP question or offer help.

I have Dexter and Rockwell American axles on two of my trailers with a EZ lube type system.
I've used Redline high temp wheel bearing grease in a tube and a can for many years on all my trailers when I do my anual r&r on the bearings and brakes.

Too funny, did I say a person should not ever inspect things? First thing I said that YOU quoted is "After actually pulling my hub off, inspecting, adjusting the bearings".

^^^^If you've paid much attention to wheel bearing/greasing threads, then you've noticed that the people who dislike EZ Lube bearings, usually from rumors and not personal experience, jump at the chance to disparage the system. Just the way the a normal forum works. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ain't gonna happen. I am not pulling and repacking all of my six wheels at least every other year. I use the EZ Lube system and have had no issues in 5 years and maybe 20,000 miles. I pulled the wheels for the first time last year and everything looked fine. Good enough for me.

x2! I ran my trailer for 9 years, with yearly bearing checks (jack up and see if there's slop) and a few pumps of fresh grease. When I did have the bearings and seals pulled and replaced (brakes checked, too), there was no significant wear on them or the spindles and brake shoes all were contamination-free.

If you pump enough to force the old grease out where does it go???

If an EZ Lube works right, it =should= come out the front, around the zerk fitting, where you can scoop it out. I don't count on it.

Personally, I would jack up the wheel, spin it, then put enough pumps in to where I could just start to hear popping from the rear seal area, then stop. I'd do 2-3 pumps, stop, listen, then do another 2-3 pumps. Wheel turning the whole time.

Thanks for the tip on warm temps. How long do you think I need to tow to have the bearings warm? A few miles?

Leave the grease gun in the Sun for a while.

Yes, a few miles at hi-way speed should warm the old grease.

Yes, I leave my black grease gun in the sun, while getting things ready to raise the first wheel.
