Extended Warranty

I just purchased a new 5th Wheel. The dealer has a couple of additional products that they would like to sell us.

The first is an extended warranty thru "the warranty group". Does anyone have experience with this warranty. Do you recommend another company?

The second is Roadside Protect from Coach-Net. Any comments, good or bad?

Thanks,
Gary

Look at the fine print on the warranty. Lots of times you will find that very little is actually covered, like above covered the part but only if installed at the dealer price $$$$. I would pass on the warranty but I am very handy and can fix about anything myself.

Coach-Net is a good company, and my dealer threw in the first year coverage with them in my deal. Do understand that you can sign up with them without your dealer and I just did it again online in about 5 minutes after about 20 minutes of reading what was covered on certain options they had. The dealer might be getting you a better price, but maybe not.

The only time I bought an RV warranty I lost. It was for 6 years and if I didn't use it I was to get the premium back. When I applied for the refund the company went out of business. Thousands of customers lots their premium or further warranty coverage. The dealer had already gone out of business so no help there. And the president of the warranty company had moved on to other ventures. ??

consumers report states NOT to get a warranty but it is just their opinion.

do your own search on warranties and tow service. good sam is one of several.

I had one on a motorhome we used to own. Everything was fine with the first claim for steps repair. The next one was for a shot microwave. To get it repaired I had to pay for removal, pay freight costs to ship it to someplace across the country for evaluation and possible repair, then pay for shipping it back. In the fine print it said shipping costs for parts were not covered. I pulled the old one and bought and installed a new one myself. Never again.

I have had Coach-Net and used it once. Very good service. I have the Good Sam service now but have not needed it.

I agree with the sentiments above.
Roadside assistance = Yep.
Extended Warranty is not for me no matter what the cost, I fix myself.

DW says she has her own warranty department in the living room on the couch.

Extended warranties are always a 50/50 proposition. I don't buy them for things like electronics but I do buy them for items that cost a lot to fix, like cars and trucks. What I don't want to do is to add to the dealers profit when I can get the same thing cheaper.

I do have roadside assistance through my insurance policy but I could remove it if I find a better deal.

Thanks for all the responses!

Coachnet RA may duplicate coverage you pay for on your auto/fiver policy.
There are other roadside assistance providers so check their price.
The dealer is not touting these products because he is your friend. He is doing it because he gets a HHHUGE commission on them. It is up to you to decide if they are any good.
DO NOT LET HIM ADD IT INTO YOUR PAYMENT

Ask for a copy of the policy. IF they give you one, read it completely.
Find out what is not covered.

Personally, I think extended warranties are a waste of money.

If you decide to buy one, negotiate the price. It's extra profit for the dealer.

Good luck.

Coach-Net RA is a good outfit.

CN we have and like it, called twice and service was good. warrenty? find a company on your own ,they get a very big chunk of the cost to put in there pocket. and if your handy? put the cost in a piggy bank and add $25.bucks every month, you,ll have a better plan than you can buy.
