Feedback on XLR and Fuzion

The wife and I are looking to upgrade from our current tahoe transport to a new, bigger unit. We have pretty much narrowed it down to 2 models...

2017 XLR thunder 380amp which now has a king bed and a residential shower with a seat vs last year's model.

Pros over Fuzion

1. I like the opposing couches layout better. But not as good of viewing angle of the tv...

2. Felt more spacious in the "living room"

3. Haven't heard many bad things about the XLR brand.

4. Has a higher GVWR be 2k lbs.

5. All of the holding tanks have a much greater capacity.

2017 Fuzion 423.

Pros over the XLR

1. TV position

2. Garage Tie downs look to be VERY SOLID. They are welded to the frame from what I understand. (This is big deal to me from past bad experiences)

I really like both units, but I am leaning towards the XLR. I will be carrying a XP1K rzr so I want to know the tie down anchors are STOUT. I have had some let go in the past.

The XLR claims to rate the tie downs at 5k lbs just like the Fuzion, but the Fuzion tie downs definitely look more stout.

I would love to hear feedback from owners of both brands about everything. Especially about the tie down anchors in the garage of the XLR. I have no concerns about the Fuzion anchors.

Thanks

Do you dry camp or are you most always connected to power? Residential fridges make more sense if you are always hooked up to power, if not you'll need a bigger battery bank and ability to recharge those batteries.

Probably 50/50 boondocking. I spoke to the XLR Rep today and he claimed a single 760 amp hour battery would run the fridge for 4.5 days....

We usually run the generator for an hour or tow first thing in the morning and maybe at night before bed. The rest of the day we are usually out riding. Of course if it is hot enough we may run it most of the day to keep the camper cool. If I had my choice I would definitely prefer a 2 way Rv fridge....

I found out today that on the latest 380 AMP, you can no longer get a normal RV refrigerator nor can you get and oven. You are forced to get a convection microwave and a residential refrigerator. I'm not liking that but am not sure it's a deal breaker. Any input on a residential fridge and convection microwave?

I know this may sound like a silly item but when you look at both RVs, check to see if either one has cabinets in the kitchen area that will sit plates and glasses in it and be down low enough you can get in it without a stepstool. Seems a lot are using very shallow overall 8" deep cabinets instead of the 12" deep ones similar to residential cabinets. That's an item we look for since we will be living in one for long periods. They think because it has a cabinet door that it has oh so much storage, but for what??

Tough call. We drove 4.5 hours to buy our Vengeance. The only only other Vengeance dealer was three hours away but they weren't even close to the pricing that we bought ours for. So we drove to Maryland from NC.

Before I purchased, I went and talked with the service dept. of my local CW. They said they'd be happy to do any warranty work for me. I'm not saying I'd be put at the front of the line but they were actually pretty cool about it. Fortunately, we've just past the one year anniversary for our Vengeance and the only warranty item we've had was the DVD player. I took that to the CW and they ordered me one and just swapped it out.

Agreed. My main concern is support after the sale. There doesn't seem to be any toy haulers sold that don'the have issues in the beginning...

I still haven't taken the plunge. The XLR is still at the top of my list, however I am finding it very difficult to find one close. The only dealer for Thunderbolts in my area is a very small dealership. They don't have any Thunderbolts in Stock and there service department is pretty much non existent. Honestly I don't believe they will be in business much longer. According to the forest River website, the next closest dealer is about 3 hours away (a camping world). We do have a camping world here local, but they don't carry the thunderbolt line.

I have been looking at ordering the XLR through couch's rv nation based on a little feedback from another member.I am concerned about buying so far away though. The service departments in this area are not that great IMO and even though couchs claims that they get warranty stuff done all over the country, I have my doubts about their "service network".

Can anyone else give any input on buying from so far away, or Couch's?

There are way more Fuzion dealers it seems and looks as though getting the Fuzion 423 would be far easier at this point. But to be honest, I like the XLR quite a bit better. I do still like the 423 though and it is still a consideration.

I have only bought Fuzion's. I really have a good dealer and I like and know the trailers. They are not perfect but I have been happy with them, unlikely I will buy anything else in the future.

I sold RVs at camping World, was ready to retire and wanted a Toy Hauler. We had Voltage (store dumped it due to warranty issues 2015)Road Warrior, Fuzion and Jayco Seismics's.
I bought a 4212 Seismic, warranty was 2 years and we were heavy on Jayco (#3 in US for sales)Glad I did!

Wonder why they put them so far forward?

You'll get a better turning radius with em forward, and a little bit more twitchy when backing up, but yeah, I wish mine were back just a tad for better towability when fully loaded. Only 'weight' reason I can see for em being more forward is to not overload the TV. You know, make the coach's axles carry the weight.

I have a SRW truck and shoulda got a DRW, but I think my trailer is too big, so what I really shoulda done is gotten a smaller trailer. Hindsight!

here is what I have alsways heard about that, if they house a table or couch it isn't good to partially open them and use them. im only partially opening my slide with the fridge and not altering the weight on it.

Last trailer had slide outs and was 8 years old never had an issue with them.

I'm still new to the world of slide-outs. I thought it was a no-no to partially open them. I thought I read in the documentation that you should always completely deploy them once you start.

I know what your looking for and that's what we miss about our old trailer, when traveling we were able to sit at the table and have lunch. the trailer we have now doesn't have a dining table but we can sit on the couch and eat, open the slide about 4 inches and we can open the fridge enough to get things.

Its not as nice but does work as we hate to eat at fast food places when traveling.
